Default Car Door Closing Sound

Not really a problem, but more so a nuisance I have.

My passenger door sounds great. The door shuts solidly with a deep thump, like that of a Mercedes or Jag.

My driver door sounds like tin when I close it. It's loud, sounds cheap, and has a bit of a rattle.

Coincidently (not so much), this is the door that has slight wind noise on the highway.

Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

It sounds like the window regulator is loose and out of adjustment. check the service bulletins section of the forum, there's one for the window there. I had to do my own drivers door window regulator adjustment after the dealership changed the regulator. It was way out and the mechanic apparently didn't check his work after he was done. It takes a little time and patients to do and get it right .

I had to have mine tightened twice. Brought my own Loktite the second time.
Pretty common problem...

You had the window regulator tightened twice, or your door itself?

Window regulator mount. Inside the door.

Yep, twice. That's the time the service writer talked the service manager into buying me breakfast at iHop for having to drive all the way back for their mistake. Nice guys!

Could also be the padding within the door.
After the Coupe was whacked by a deer a couple of years ago within several months I noticed that the door sounded tinny when closed. There were times when it made a nice "dong" sound when closed, like someone smacking a giant gong.
Took it back to the body shop that did the initial repair & had the car back within a couple of hours. The service manager said the the door insulation had fallen off. They just glued it back in position and voila', end of issue.

To see if the problem arises because of the window fitting wrongly, put both of the windows down and compare the sound of each door closing. If they sound the same then it is the window that is to blame. An air tight door sounds different than a door that is poorly sealed.
