Default Brake light question

I'm looking for some help with the following. Both brake lights on my '04 coupe are not working. I replaced one bulb and it still didn't work. I checked the fuse (#2 in the fuse box by the headlamp control) and it is not burnt.
I did some searching on this site but didn't come up with anything.
Can anyone suggest a different remedy that a consumer could attempt?

Thanks in advance, Don

Did you check the fuses on the drivers side dash and fuses under hood?
Also is the cruise control working? (sure sign fuse 2 is out)

Try a new fuse in slot 2
