Default under body panel (splash guard or whatever they are called)

The passenger side fron wheel's splash guard that is being the wheel is torn or broken somehow and it rubs the wheel when i make a right turn. The sound it makes is much more horrible sounding than what is actually happening when it rubs on the tire. My question is, can i remove it? or cut off the portion that is rubbing on the tire? What does it protect ? what am i exposing the car to if i take it off? Would it be easy to remove and replace without having a lift to put the car on? Would it be expensive to get the part?

I've had mine off for cleaning, the only trick is you can't use the jack pad to lift the car, as it has to come off in order to partially remove the lower valence to get to the rear attaching points for the guard.

I wouldn't be cutting - that can lead to letting water in to promote rust.

I assume it is the rear guard that you are talking about. It stops dirt and such from getting behind the fender where the WW reservoir is located, water would go all over it and go back as far as the forward edge of the door.
Fit a new one.
