I searched and couldn't find anything on this exactly.
In the garage with the doors unlocked the 4 way hazard lights activate by themselves. I push the hazard button (Triangle button on dash) and it doesn't do anything right away. I have to push in while pushing down (toward the ground) to get it to "latch". 4 ways go out but turn signals do not work.
If I push the hazard button in and hold it in the 4 ways are off and the turn signals work fine.
I've checked fuse 4 on the headlight module and disconnected the battery for a reboot.
Also, hazards started by themselves while I was getting fuel.
Any ideas/help is appreciated.
2006 convertible with 47,800 miles kept in heated garage whole life, never wrecked.
Methinks you either have a problem with the button sticking in the switch or against the trim bezel. It may require a partial disassembly and cleaning.
Search for "Center Console Disassembly".
Original battery? Hazards going on by (anti thift) themselves is sometimes an indication of battery going bad.
The Battery was replaced under warranty December 2007 and it is a 72 month battery. So it is definitely old. But the car starts every time easily. I should get a new battery though. Thanks for the post.

My guess is that the contacts in the hazard switch have dislodged(from pivot point). Disassembly of the switch will likely reveal the problem. Good luck!
You said this all started when fueling. In addition to checking the hazard switch for proper opperation, please check the switch at the fuel door. It is part of the anti theft system, and turn off the anti tow switch on the center console. Good luck
You can also test the SKREEM module by locking the car and then looking through the glass to see if the red LED is blinking on the tow-away switch in the center console. Leave the Tow-Away anti theft switch/alarm on for this quick test. If LED is blinking SKREEM module should be OK. No blinking and you have a problem with the SKREEM (Sentry Key Remote Entry Module). I am assuming the siren is not going off because the batteries in it are long ago dead.

Car battery replaced. It was 8 years old!! I checked the alarm and the red light flashes. Also, the alarm sounds when activated so I guess alarm battery is still good.
Looks like I am going to have to take the hazard switch apart and see if it is stuck or broke.

If it simple is not stuck or hung up and you must replace it the part number for the hazard switch is 51026114AA. I think it includes the flasher relay, BUT is no longer available. Double check with Chrysler just to be sure. Mercedes 320 SLK switch is a bit different than ours, SO you will need to find a used one at a junk yard, eBay or someone parting out a car here on the forum. I sure hope that will fix the problem.

I can not find any instructions on center console disassembly. I guess I don't know how to use the search feature very well.

Any advice?

Type in "need help with console removal" ,fourth post, there is a PDF. You can also download a complete service manual, here on the forum. That will be very helpful ,if you are planning any future projects.
I found several used ones on eBay and ordered one. It should work.
This part seems very fragile. Not sure how I broke it though. It just seem to let go. Can not remember the last time the 4 ways were intentionally operated.
