An alternative way to install the rear bumper diffuser
I found an alternative way to install a rear bumper diffuser instead of super overpriced Mopar OEM or Mopar OEM style diffuser.
My idea is to buy a set of 4 single fins, slightly modify them to fit the bottom of the bumper and install to the right location, two fins on each side. I’m going to use stainless steel fitting (bolts, fender washers, and nuts). Also before the installation, I’ll spray the fins with 2K clear coat for better resistance. For easy installation, the rear bumper probably will be taken off.
Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
I'm interested to hear how easy this is and curious to see the finished results
Please come back to this thread to show us pics after your install is complete
Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
I'm glad to start a project at any time but.........I'm in NY and she is in Florida. No way to get there at this time. People don't like cars with NY plates, LOL
There is a set of plain fins on eBay, so you can paint them at any color you want. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4PCS-Car-Au...wAAOSwTpldsRQx
Found in red color that perfectly matches the color of my car but those are not for sale in the United States. Only in China.

Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
Before drilling the holes, I'll use my new toy Ryobi P305 cordless glue gun to stick the fins temporarily. I'll make a few pictures and place them here.
And finally, you'll be the judges. In any scenario, my damage will be just $20, not a big deal.
That's what stopping me to travel to Florida and doing my project:
All persons traveling to Florida from New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut are required upon entry to Florida to self-isolate or quarantine for 14 days, or for the duration of their presence in the state, whichever is shorter.
Roadside checkpoints are set up on interstates to check for potential COVID-19 cases coming into Florida. Anyone traveling into Florida from Louisiana and other areas with substantial community spread of the virus will be subject to a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine. The checkpoints do not apply to commercial drivers or health workers.
Hate this virus

Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
I've received the items today. Looks good. I'm ready to start the project but there is only one problem, I don't have access to my car because of CV-19.
Hate it pretty much.

I'll get some rest for now and then I'll take care of the diffusers.
Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
Some update. Straightened the base part a little and connected the diffuser to an aluminum flat bar. Screws will be cut.
There is a gap between the diffuser and the aluminum flat bar so the diffuser will be filled with construction foam to avoid water and dirt
The diffusers will be connected with 3M double side adhesive and adhesive promoter at any place I want. The rear bumper won't be drilled into.
Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
Ready for installation. I've skipped the foam filling process instead of that I made a hole in the middle of each diffuser.
Now I'm waiting for some stuff from Amazon like

Wow They have turned out pretty good! I can’t wait for you to put them on and show us what are they like on the car!
Re: Alternative way to install rear bumper diffuser
Project "Affordable diffusers" have been done. Not perfect but I'm happy with my job. The visible aluminum flat bar will be painted in black later, my bad should do that before the installation.
One of a kind on planet Earth LOL.
My expenses:
Diffusers $21
Aluminum flat bar Home Depot $7
Scotch tape $10
Adhesive promoter $6

I Love How it came out! Great job, just paint the metal bar and you’re good to go! I know you said something about making a guide or something for us folks who want to try this out. Are you still doing that? I’d love to get one as well! Definitely worth the money!
