Windshield glare, halos, light burts during night driving.
(2006 base roadster 6 speed manual. Location NJ)
While driving at night I am experiencing a halo like glaring and small starbursts creating glare. This is dangerous and I try not to drive the car at night anymore.
I am getting older and I will be seeing an optometrist for an eye exam as a precaution.
I have a 2021 pickup as my daily driver and I do get the occasional glare when a car comes at me with the H.I.D. headlights, but nothing like in the Crossfire.
Therefore I believe it is more to do with the car's windshield than my eyesight.
I did have a problem with heavy water spotting on my windshield and all of my windows and I have polished them away.
I have tried the forum's search with no luck, and from what I have searched on google, is that it could be pitting from road grit.
My question is, are there any options besides replacing the windshield to eliminate this glare?
What worries me about having the windshield replaced is the possibility of losing the surround pieces while driving if they aren't installed properly.
I would appreciate any advice or recommendations for a company that will do the job properly.
Thank you for your time.

While it could be a problem with the windshield, I wonder if it could be the seating position. In your pickup you sit above oncoming headlights. The lower seating in the xfire puts you at or below oncoming headlights.

You're right, that is part of the problem. I'm at eye level for most regular cars and trucks. I've adjusted the seat to different heights, and it still happens.

At my last eye test I was told by the optrician that I had the beginnings of cataracts and that I may have problems with glare from oncoming motorists? Just recenly I have started to noitce this, especially if it is raining as well. Trip back to optician is called for methinks?

I wouldn't do anything with the car until your visit with the eye guru.
A year ago, I couldn't drive at night, with oncoming headlights everything went white and I couldn't see.
Quick and easy cataract surgery and night time problem gone.
You also have to remember, you are sitting very low to oncoming headlights.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Oldfogie and steve1189. I will definitely see my eye doctor no matter what.
I am also going to try something else. I will have my girlfriend drive my car and see if she has the same problem as I do.
I will update after she drives my car.
Thanks again

Keep the windshield clean inside and out, an avoid looking at the lights, tough to do I know.
If you have a windshield replaced get a good one a make sure it has no distortion in it anywhere.
If you get a new WS make sure that the tape behind the clips is replaced, this seems to be the reason that the $300 + trim above the WS falls of and gets run over by every car behind you.
Re: Windshield glare, halos, light burts during night driving.
UPDATE:
I let my girlfriend drive my car at night. She saw the same glare, haloing and star bursts as I have. I've also noticed when we were driving during the day, there were a lot of specks in the windshield. Especially now that the sun sets at a lower angle in the fall.
It looks like I will have to get the windshield replaced.
I've never had to have a windshield replaced on any cars that I've owned before. I would like some advice from someone who has.
Should I remove the windshield trim and reinstall it myself, or should I let the auto glass company do it?
Any recommendations as far as a reliable company? I'm in New Jersey and I was thinking of Safelite.
Thanks for the help.
Re: Windshield glare, halos, light burts during night driving.
I recently used this product on my windshield and it was amazing it removed the containments that were on my windshield. I usually clay my windshield but I have to say this works well. Use it with your favorite product "elbow grease" and you will see a difference.

I had 3M Crystalline window tint installed
I chose the lightest one (CR70) and it reduces 97% of UV heat in the vehicle and it will reduce the glare entering your vehicle as well

I had really tough water spots a while back. I tried a bunch of suggestions on how to get them clean. I ended up polishing them out with Griot's compound.
Nothing else worked. I still have the back window to do.
I made a post here on the forum: Hard water spotting on windshield and windows

That looks like a great product, I might use it on my RAM if I don't trade it in when the lease is up. Is the 3m product expensive?
Unfortunately I think the windshield is too far gone. I've just noticed, in my water spotting post, I had assumed that it was just dirt on the inside of the windshield.
This a picture that I had taken after I had polished the windshield. It shows the specks that I believe are causing the halos.
The paint also has water spotting it's visible in the picture as well. I'm going to have a detailer do paint correction this winter.
Thank you for your suggestion.

It cost $299 on my 2022 Ford Edge ST....probably less for the Crossfire since the windshield is much smaller
