Default My crossfire was in show car condition until

Well I usually don't drive the Xfire in bad weather. I drive the Sterling for that. But a few weeks ago I took it to run a late night errand and a stupid sand truck in front of me accidentally released its entire darn load of gravel on the thru way. I swerved to avoid it but thousands and I mean THOUSANDS of little pebbles chipped my windshield.

I checked the body and headlights and amazingly they didn't get any dings or scratches, how can this be? But my windshield now has thousands of those tiny little dots you see on really old windshields. :|

Question, when I take the car to get a new windshield next week should I be worried? Are these difficult to replace and will they do a half as*ed job because its difficult.

Thanks guys

No it is no big deal to replace the windshield. MAKE sure the replacement windshield is OEM made by MOPAR, do not let them put an aftermarket windshield in your Crossfire. Make sure you tell them you want a MOPAR windshield and no other kind or type.

with such limited production... i wonder if there is even an aftermarket source of a non-oem windshield.

~ here is a prior link of replacement talk... https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ght=windshield

the front glass does mar easily. i have several small chips after 20k. the glass never seems clean enough.

Andrew, up until the "incident" my windshield was so free of marks you could not tell there was a windshield. I'm not kidding. When I saw the gravel I swear I almost blew a gasket. I wanted to literally kill that guy.

Hmmm... and I thought it was just me. I've tried several different window cleaners, micro fiber towels, paper towels, you name it and my windows are always somehow smudged or smeared.

Mine doesn't stay clean from smudges all the time! I wonder why?

I too have the smudge problem, trying different cleaners, but so far I can never get the glass smudge free. Once or twice I, for a second or two, said to myself "man this is great glass cleaner", but then I walk away and come back. Guess what? The smudges are back. I keep trying.

i have had the best luck with "3M glass cleaner". i use a blue surgical huck towel (lint free) to clean them... in the pattern of: side to side, up and down, side to side and around the perimeter to finish... flipping the towel as i go...to a streak free shine.

glass cleaner: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/yhst-691...828/mmm89.html

surgical huck towels: http://www.eriecotton.com/Surgical-Huck-Towels-c-74

~ best tip... do not wash your windows in the direct sunlight. (='s smears/streaks) ... (fyi - windex is the worst glass cleaner for car windows).

I've not been all that impressed with the original windshield. It doesn't help that it's been hit no less than 6 or 7 times. Even beyond that, it has really shown every possible contact or pit. Factory glass retails for about $800. Not sure what you could actually get one for. Several aftermarket glass companies have quoted $250-300 installed, using several different brands. I'm just waiting to quit getting nailed.

I say, just drive it and enjoy it. I keep mine in top shape as well, store it for the winter, and keep it waxed. But, I did buy it to drive it, and minor wear and tear has to be expected. There is no way to avoid it, even in the best of winter.
If I did not accept a little bit of wear and tear, I would feel sick about every little rock chip and scratch, and unless you intend to never drive it, a little wear and tear will happen. Chips can be filled, dings can be pulled, and paint chips can be touched up.

When I had my accident last October there were no aftermarket windshields made. Here in NJ if your car is still in warranty they can't use any after market parts that could void any part of your warranty. That does include the windshield.
Also AAMCO the windshield wiper people say to use only BonAmi cleanser on the outside of the windshield. It cleans it better than anything you have ever used. Just rinse it off good and dry it. You will even find that your wipers work better.

PS only BonAmi

Try waxing your glass. Thats what I do. Looks better and stays cleaner longer. Water beads right off when it rains.

i have been using "aquapel" glass treatment. this product puts "rain x" to shame. the longevity of rain x is very poor by comparison. aquapel easily lasts a true 2 months. $9.95

here is a link and additional info...

Reason for the headlights being OK - headlight front are plastic - small pebbles will either crack it or bounce off, the more brittle windscreen glass will chip.

Stoner's Invisible Glass will get your windshield clean guys. Sorry about the windshield MAYAman. Did you get the guy to pay for it? If not its a comprehensive claim on your insurance.
