I just saw a short tip video on putting clear lacquer on foggy headlight lenses! Has anyone tried this and is there any downsides to doing this? Headlights are too expensive to take chances!

I would just use a headlight restoration kit. I used the 3M kit. It took about 45 minutes and cost about 15 bucks.
Here's another headlight tip I'd like to share. I have a small jar of "Mothers Mag Wheel and Aluminum Polish" I tried on my foggy lens. It worked GREAT! I didn't even have to use a drill rotary pad. Just used a rubbing pad to apply and cloth to polish off. Not a crystal clear job but found it didn't have to be that perfect. Wish I had taken a before picture. Here's a pic of the after polishing the lens. ( 5 minutes of work ) Passenger side was really bad.
I had a crack in one of my headlights and they were somewhat hazy, so I vinyl wrapped them that took care of the crack and made them look like new . The downside was i had to change the headlight bulbs to higher output led's to compensate for the tint. The tint has been on over a year with no visible signs of wear or fading

That dark tint would look really good with my Alabaster White paint! I wouldn't need to change light bulbs cause I don't drive at night.
