They (big oil) could also be getting us ready to switch over to using more alcohol fuels, this could be another reason why there are no refineries being built. but there are more farmers getting into the alky biz and they are building new plants to keep up with the high demand the oil companies have be using to dilute our gasoline with. Most likely we will start seeing a lot of flex fuel cars being sold.
Its kinda weird that California only has one Alky gas station in the entire state, strange...

 

O to live in the US or near it. $1.22 per liter for high test. 3.78 l. per gal. =$4.61 per gal. Thank god I can go over the boarder get a good meal fill up couple of drinks and a tank of gas. Only in America.

 

This is NOT a course in free enterprise 101 - if it was - the US govt would raise the royalties on oil field leases (just like apartment rents go up when real estate prices rise) (after all they built the apartments before prices went up) but NO – govt. old field leases have GONE DOWN...

Remember – most of the oil wells in the USA are at low GOVT. lease rates with wells built in the 1970’s and 1980’s that have long since paid for themselves – thus the oil from them are pumped at a pure profit.

Reduce supply while demand rises - and spot prices go through the roof. (As priced by OPEC) Add to that that the US Govt. removed 10% of the world market crude from the free market to “Increase” the US petroleum reserve and BANG!! World spot market prices jump even more.

It’s called the double screw. The law of SUPPLY & DEMAND would state that if we needed to build more refineries, then the supply of refined gasoline would be at a shortage.

Right?? - more refineries mean more supply, oil companies would only spend $$Billions$$ of dollars to build new refineries if you needed to sell the extra product - right.

Any gas stations in your area running out of product to sell (GAS?)

You wouldn’t buy more milk cows at your dairy (and the feed to fuel them) if the super market shelves were still stocked with milk and they were tossing out expired product - would you??

Firstly Diesel is more expensive than petrol here.

95Ron Petrol (standard) is currrently £0.99 per litre therefore @ 6.25 litres to one of your US Gallons means you would be paying £6.19 per US Gallon (Approx $12.38 of your US dollars per US Gallon).

So when you complain, just take a look at what IS going to happen and consider what size engine cars you drive, the Crossfire is a large engined car here in the UK.

 

Approx 4 litres to a gallon and not 6.25.

 

There is no oil shortage.
There is no gasoline shortage.
An oil guy from an oil family from an oil state gets elected, gas prices triple.

We all know that the Brits have it "tuff" when it comes to high gasoline prices over there. We just figured that was a penalty you had to pay for driving on the wrong side of the road.
Just out of curiosity, as a Brit, how much did you pay for hospitalization insurance last year?

 

+fireamx, you make a good point. I travel to the U.K. 3 times a year, and I've compared notes with the guys there. The Brits do pay significantly more for petro, but at the end it all evens out when you take real estate taxes and medical car in consideration. Plus I also agree with you on the penalty statement. Also the cost of living there is also higher.

 

I'm afraid we American have no interest in catching up with you Brits. What with your government taking away your rights, guns, and not to mention the Police monitor everyone through close circuit video. Thats one place I would hate to see influence our politicians and Govmnt.

I was seduced by the sexy lady, and now I feel like I have to make child support payments to the oil companies!

 

$9.00 for regular gas here... its getting pretty pricey...

I'll graciously ignore the first part of your comment.

But relating to health care, yes we can get it free, eventually if we are lucky, but this is because we have an amount taken off every pay cheque to pay for this, from the day we start work. (so just like having private).

Even then, because the health system is so crap now, most people above a certain level have private cover as well, the same as you do, because if your really are ill, you never know when you will be treated or what standard of treatment you will receive from the National Heath System.

Just out of curiosity...what did you pay for your Crossfire...I paid £20,000 ($40,000) for a Roadster this time last year and it was a year old then! New would have been ($54,000).

 

Funny how because we are different sides of the pond how differently we think.

Most people in the UK would say our government has been influenced by the Blair/US/Bush Alliance for the last 10 years.
