Obviously "General" just attracts the bots. What a waste of bandwidth...

How about renaming to miscellaneous.

 

that won't work...they go after common off-topic forum names.

general chat, misc, etc, non-(anything it seems)...all are targets.

how many legit new members are signing up a day? you may be better off having to validate new members before they can post, or finding an anti-spam/verification hack for the board software. i've even seen boards that won't accept registrations from people using free email accounts, cuts down on the spam and BS.

 

There are several verification methods that use a distorted picture code to be entered manually. Most of these are VERY effective at keeping bots away.

In addition the General area could be renamed. Maybe "Unfiled"?
