I've seen a few posts where people bash Chrysler, or Mercedes, or the UAW, or this brand of car, or whoever... most of the unfounded. I admit that I am a car snob but I am mostly a style snob. I don't like most foreign cars because most of the non-American companies too a page from Buick (yes, Buick... look it up) and design one corporate face and stick it on everything... forever. No matter how bland.

It also bugs me that even though facts support otherwise, people truly believe (insert car brand here) is the best brand ever. I love Chrysler/Dodge and have owned almost nothing without a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth logo on it... but not because they were the best. My Crossfire is partly (or wholy depending on who you ask) Mercedes and I know Mercedes is far from the best. I'm sure every car company has the most... something... most reliable, fastest, best looking, longest lasting... but none have them all.

I will continue to enjoy my Mercedes/Chrysler amalgam and my Plymouth/Dodge ('71 Challenger)... Enjoy what you drive. Unless it's a FWD sedan. Then trade it in for something more fun!

Have you noticed how polarizing we have become as a society? You can not be a republican or a democrat with out hating the other party. You can not drive a Chevy pickup without having a bad boy in your rear window pissing on a Ford insignia. You have to justify your choice by putting down other makes of vehicles or other people. Some people must be insecure in their religions also. Since when did " secular" or "liberal" become bad names?

Your right, there is no perfect car, political party, or religion.

 

There's nothing worse than a person who calls themselves a "car guy" when in fact they are so brand loyal that anything else is junk in their minds. If the only thing you like is Corvettes, then you're a Corvette guy, not a "car guy" (not intending to pick on Corvettes specifically so please don't read anything into that).

Sure, you can be partial to a specific brand or genre but doing so at the exclusion of all others just shows you to be closed minded. I love the local Saturday show around here called Cars & Coffee because it's incredibly diverse. Italian exotics, Italian classics, American Muscle, hot rods, antiques, customs, race cars - you name it, everything shows up and everybody gets along. Now that is a group of real car guys.

 

I get the 'snob' effect from some folks.
I was talking to one fellow at work about his modded WRX (not a STi). He asked what I had, I told him, he responded "I would stomp you." Doubtful IMO, but worth a shot.
Another guy was referring to a Porsche 930 Turbo in the parking lot at work. I said that it would be a good race, he looked at me like I was crazy and said, "that car would kill yours." It would probably be a close one. Even in the 930's prime ~1983 it is still almost even with a SRT6 performance wise.
A different occasion involved a non-turbo Solstice trying to race me. That was ugly. I was talking to someone about it (because they had mentioned looking at a Solstice) and he said "You're lucky it wasn't a turbo." Really? Because unless it was a heavily modded GXP, there would be little issue.

Oh well, eventually people will learn . . . or not.

 

As a guy who claims to be a MOPAR guy I have had a Honda del Sol, a Camaro, and a '67 Mustang. I also thuroughly enjoyed test driving a Mini Cooper and a Jaguar. And I almost got a CTS instead of the Crossfire...

I have noticed, as mentioned above, that car shows usually have a lot of guys who just love cars. I know I enjoy seeing a brand new modded Civic as much as I enjoy seeing a '70 Superbird or a '55 Buick or an old Mercedes. Love what you have and drive 'em like you stole 'em, right?

 

yeah i agree. I find myself doing this a lot with newer cars. I love all old cars (70s and earlier) no matter what their make.

It is annoying though when people cant just get over their ideas and be open.

And here i am member of 2 mopar forums and no other brand. :-P
