I’m not still convinced by hybrids. A hybrid has to carry both an internal combustion engine + fuel AND and electric motor + batteries. For me, this is one drive train too many, and too much weight. In effect, the efficiency of either power system is hampered by the other being present. You may get good milage out of a hybrid, but imaging the mileage you’d get if the extra weight wasn’t there.

I’m playing a waiting game. I’m waiting for electric cars to fully mature. Batteries will get smaller, more powerful and give longer range.
I'm with you HairyD but we are going to see hybrids as a bridge to a mature electric.
First, they need the feild experience to get the electric technology proven.
Second, the battery is the weak link and that will come down in size and up in capacity as more market creates more innovation opportunities.

At least the Chrysler approach is less complicated. Simple is always better.

And yes Apkano, I put a 50 AMP two pole breaker in my house panel and have the wire coiled up in the garage for just such an event. Just have to string it thru the house.

GM ias coming out with the Volt.
Chrysler is coming out with their EV line.
Ford has their product hatching.
And then there is the Prius and other hybrids.

So where is all the Electric coming from to power these cars.

Bill O'reilly says we should follow the French lead and go nucleur. I agree that we need to go nucleur but there is trouble with that idea. Aside from the issue of disposal of wastes and Chernobyl melt downs, there is an issue of fuel souce. Primarily, it won't make us energy independant.
Check this out.

So in 30 years, will we be again out of energy?
