Default The Snow Thread

Well, its happened, first snow of the season and my Pilot Sports are not happy...

It's not even the moisture on the ground that makes it slippery, but the very coldness seems to make summer tires inoperable, but snow tires? "Wee don' nead no stinkin' sno tires"

I'm just gonna get some High Perf All Seasons up front, I only have 5 miles to get to work so just drive slow and I'll make it.

How is everyone else coping? Any other places get hit with snow yet? Anyone switch to winters yet? We are expecting more light flurries tomorrow witch actual sticky stuff later on this week.

We had about an inch here last night.

I went all last winter with Goodyear F1 A/S tires.....they worked great!

No problem at all with snow that was deeper than the car is off the ground!

I am happy to report that it's 72 degrees and sunny here in Dallas today.
Great roadster weather!

I went through a tire change fiasco this weekend, switching to winters on the rear. will ultimately have F1 A/S on the front and pirelli winters on the back. 18" all the way around. Hopefully completed first thing Saturday morning.

I'm just chasing FP down... you don't realize how addicted I am. I'm at work right now, and I've been on, and am on the whole day from like 7amish till about 1:00AMish and then repeat next day.

BTW, used the defroster today on the rear window and it works like a charm! Snow, eat my spoiler!

Crap that is a long work day?? You work from 7am to 1am? Or you work, than go home and hop on?

I work from 8 to 3-4ish and am on most of the day too, haha.

I don't remember what I used to do at work anymore.

You've already beat me on a "per Day" posts. You're at 8.35 post per day, but Valky is 9.97 per day. You're both ahead of me in that category

Naw I work from 8amish till 8pmish roughly, sometimes shorter or longer but I'm also on my phone when not at home or work.

A mod can add a poll perhaps asking "Storing for winter" or "Put winter tires on" or something like that too.

I checked the underbody and it seems no extra coating is required. Next year I might put some protection on.

I think the NE beat us by a couple hours. At least when I was watching the afternoon NFL game (Steelers v Chargers) it was snowing some in Pittsburgh. I think it didn't start snowing until the evening in Chicago, at least it didn't where I was.

EDIT: Also, the trick is not to get more posts or posts/day than anyone else, but rather to make each and every post count for something and be a contribution to this already great forum.

I really dig 'em.....but I have to say "C".

They are a great tire, don't get me wrong. They look great on the car. They worked about 1000 times better than the Conti's in the snow and rain. They are right on par with the conti's as far as dry grip in the summer, if not a slight bit better. (lower the pressure a little bit and they are dragstrip superstars, as far as road tires go!)If those are your main concerns then I say go for it.

Now that I've had them on for about a year....they have started to get a little loud. My other problem with them is they pick up every piece of road debris that they can find. I've replaced the right rear twice now for picking up screws. They could have been patched without a problem, but I just don't feel safe at the dragstrip / dyno / 100+ freeway speeds with a less than perfect tire. If you get these tires, definitely get the road hazard plan!

Hopefully this helps!

......packin' up the thermal Depends & headin' south like a snowbird - you should be ashamed of yourself, Max. You should have your warm-weather as_ up here staring down the frozen precipitation like the rest of us!

Light snow yesterday........and on Saturday........oh, yeah, Friday, too. Some vicious squalls today that dump like an inch on the ground, which then proceeds to blow away, all the while leaving a nice veneer of ice on the road followed by blazing sunlight for 15 minutes which melts the ice & then the whole thing starts over again.
Oh, and then there's deer running like wild all over the place.
Gee, I so love this time of the year!
Not.
