We always used Scott's growing up seemed to help and not hinder the growth of the bermuda. Once you get the bermuda fully rooted and off to the races you will notice far fewer weeds. Then again, all grass is actually a weed...so, yeah.
Definitely suggest mowing more often, will indeed help choke out the weeds and let the bermuda take hold. Also, cutting the grass in different directions each time you mow seemed to help as well... not sure why, but it always worked for me growing up... We always had the nicest lawn on the block and weren't the ones who did the most to the lawn either...just simple maintenance.
