John Mahoney, who as the cranky, blue-collar dad in “Frasier” played counterpoint to pompous sons Frasier and Niles, has died. Mahoney was 77.

My favorite line from his character was “I do one thing at a time, I do it quite well and then I move on.”

This was a much heralded event in the UK, it was known that an attempt would be made on the record and it was on TV. Bannister collapsed at the tape and it was seen by millions.
Chris Chatterway was one of the pacemakers and also a renowned runner, headlines in the paper after one famous race with John Landy I believe said “ Chatterway? He went Thatterway”.
This was in the day of the true amateur, a different era.

I was saddened to hear this. I was in the car driving when I heard. I have followed his work for years, some of his train of thought took weeks( for me) to understand. Truly a loss for many communities..

It is a sad loss for our world.

Hawkin's vision drove physics to new levels of understanding.

That said, I have to wonder if his most recent publications, which challenged many of the conventions he proposed, weren't parting shots to stimulate controversy.

After all, he was well known for his devilish sense of humor.
