Default Life with Little Debbie

Well Little Debbie has been with me since July 6th, almost a week now. I have put few miles on her, but have had her out every day but friday.

I' have always gone with "practical" for transportation - and HATE front wheel drive - so you see, I'v not had a car since my brand-new Chevy Chevette in 1985. (Don't poke fun, that was a nice car - 35pmg, too!)

Well, the Princess is quite an experience. EVERY TIME I take her out, I get comments - from the gas station attendant, the car hop at the local drive in eatery, the checkout girl at Dollar General, etc.

I can't believe that simply DRIVING can be so much fun. I was going to buy a Coupe, really liked those cars and would not have the impending expense of replacing the top (or worry about a failure in the mechanism someday). But when a club member insisted that I drive HER Roadster last month - it was over. I KNEW she had just cost me $4,000 or $5,000 more. "Oh, it's over now, Shawn..."

In fact, as I drove around Tybee and Savannah with Shawn, I was reminded of Will Smith in "Independance Day" as he shot into the sky in the alien fighter-ship: "I have got to get me one of these!" And, in less time than I was prepared for, I did.

I told the salesguys at the Chrysler dealer (where Deb Walker found Little Debbie for me), that I had to be the happiest customer they've ever had.

Thanks for sharing!
I too have always been limited by the practical requirements of car choice. Mine was my first roadster as well, and I share the same exhilaration every time I drive it, top up or down. The recent dry spell in Seattle has enabled consecutive weekend drives top-down... absolute pleasure!

Recently, my 5-year-old son had a video interview as part of his school's activities, and the first thing he said was that "my dad has a convertible and I love to ride in it". My 12-year-old daughter has hinted for me to leave the car to her when she turns 16 (likely to attract all the guys... )

It is a privilege to be part of this select group of Crossfire owners

I'll say. I THINK I have the only Crossfire Roadster in Spalding county, Georgia - I have seen ONE black Coupe running around town, but that's it.

Ok, did my first road trip in the car this past weekend. On saturday, I drove 150miles to Aiken, SC for a ham radio event, stayed in a Barn, Bed and breakfast. Rose early and drove 2 1/2 hours to Savannah, GA for a meeting of what I call "The Breakfast Club"... a bunch of Crossfire owners that get together now and then.

In the post above, first photo shows me (in the red shirt) sitting next to Deb Walker. The couple next to me are not Crossfire people, but friends.... Across the table are two couples, both Crossfire owners. In back, Paul and Tammy (dark grey 6 speed coupe) and John and Shawn (lite blue Roadster).

The second pic is a look at the four cars.

The third pic is, of course, Little Debbie.

I cam home with about 20 pictures of my car alone!

We make a spectacle of ourselves - we stood in the lot looking at and talking about our cars longer than we sat at breakfast!

Terrible news!!! I have had my "200 horsepower, air conditioned go-kart" for only three weeks and have already put 1800 miles on her!!! The odometer, as I got home from the Carolinas last night, read 15,171!!!!!!!

I'm in crisis here .... my goal was to put only 15,000 on her in four years, like the previous owner. I guess, there is only one answer: she'll sit in the garage a lot for about six months now!***

*** Anyone here believe that will happen?

That will be hard my friend. Just alternate cars a bit so you cut down over a 12 month period. That way you may meet your goal any way.

Well, I DO have the company van to go to work in... and my pickup for hauling plywood and trash...

I should be ok - it's treat just to go get a burger at the drive in once or twice a week - 5 miles round trip!

I just HATE to drive it too much - it's a four year old car with only 15K on it ----- you should see it, under the hood and everywhere else, it looks new!

Sure had fun this weekend - that little car EATS up the interstate like NOTHING I'v ever driven before.

I have to agree with you guys. PizzaG, you will find that most of use here keep our cars very clean, in, out, and the engine bay. But have to enjoy it.

You guys sound like Deb Walker now!

Well, it's gonna stay CLEAN, you can bet on that. I don't know that I can keep from driving it, anyway. But it is CERTAINLY unlike any motorycycle, Jeep, truck or car I'v owned.

I can't believe I lived 49 years and had never even SAT in a convertible until a month ago. But I find myself wishing I could afford a Coupe in addition to the Roadster.

I guess I better marry for money this time.

Well, I probably AM making a big deal outta nothin. Can't go out of state EVERY weekend, anyway - and I have the company van to go to work in, and my pickup for running around town and parking in areas that "door dings" are common.... the car is for "special times" and "special destinations".

I get a LOT out of going to the local drive in restaurant in her evenings after work - makes a good reward for me at the end of a working day!

Man, FINALLY: A reason for having a garage!

Pizzaguy, you live in the South, you can drive your car year round. You now own a Roadster, drive the darn thing like there's no tomorrow. They're cheap, they're plentiful, and chances are they aren't going to start to really appreciate in value for some time.
Keeping the mileage low is just going to deprive you of your new found joy, Driving for the "thrill" of the drive.
Besides, living on the East Coast, there are just too many great GTG's you just woun't want to miss.
