I need to replace my front light and I'm not sure how to keep the hood upright posiition or then the pump is broken?

 

There are two setting for the hood to stay up. One pull it all the way, and it should stay. the other press the button on the strut, and pull the hood all the way to a 90 deg angle. it should lock in that position.

 

Thanks for the quick response but I'm still a bit unclear. I popped the hood release from inside and opened the hood but it is not staying up. I raised it up pretty high... not sure if it was 90 degree or not. Seems like it should stay up already. Can you clarify again how the hood stays open. Thanks

 

To expand from FP's advice, if your hood struts are working, once you pass 45degrees, you should be able to feel the spring action forcing the hood up to the first locked position (about 60degrees thereabouts). Pressing a button near the middle of the strut allows you to further push up the hood to the second (and final) locked position which is almost perpendicular to the ground.

If you need to keep holding onto the hood even up to 45degrees, then you might need to replace your hood strut. Or have someone hold it up for you

 

or get a stick. That always worked for me.

 

Might just have broken strut, but push it up to it won't go up any further...it should click...what about a pump is broken, you mean the strut is broken I guess...it does look like a bicycle pump doesn't it???
