Default do you wear your seatbelt?

for the most part I never wear mine becuase I feel that it's my right to choose as long as I don't hurt anyone else. My driving is as safe as anyone else's if that says that much but I don't talk on my phone and drive or read a book or anything other than drive.

I guess worse case that I could hurt someone else by me not wearing a seatbelt would be my body becoming a projectile and taking someone out.

I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. If I'm moving the car more than about 20ft, seatbelt goes on.

No if, ands', or buts' about it.

Always.

Maybe it is my right to choose... I choose seatbelt over face through windshield.

one of the side benefits to my getting the Cross was to train me to put the seat belt on. The tone is really annoying, so I just get in, snap it up and off we go. Now I find myself getting into other cars and doing it automatically. I never wore it before. The gov't intrusion, again, in this area is also annoying. We have mandatory seat belt laws but no motorcycle helmetlaws. Why? The bikers, like I am, say they should be responsible for themselves, but why isn't that same argument acceptable for car drivers. passengers I understand, they have no control over someone else's driving, but either it good enough for MC pilots and cage drivers or it's not. BTW, I wear a full face helmet every time I ride.

Aren't those things just to help the ambulance driver find the body?

Definitely a false sense of security!!! Until you are in that one accident that comes out of nowhere, without warning, and you realize that you are extremely lucky to be alive (in spite of your own stupidity), only then will your attitude change. The only thing you have to do is live long enough to experience just how fast something like that can happen.

What about your family and friends you'll be hurting if you become a projectile and end up dead or worse, a vegetable for the rest of your life.

Took the steering wheel too the windshield once. That was enough for me.
Long hospital stays that could have been avoided, are not worth it.

I always buckle up these days.

I've been wearing a seatbelt in every car I drive or ride in ever since 1963 when the "Feds" made the manufacturers install them as standard equiptment.
One of my favorite Uncles died in 1962 when he lost control of his Cadilliac at a high rate of speed (after crossing a severe dip in the road, by a bridge). The car launched itself 20' in the air after climbing a guardrail, and landed nose first in a 3' deep swamp, winding up on it's roof.
He went through the windshield, and they later found him "under" the car.

Here in Victoria Australia, it has been law to wear seatbelts since the l970, so most people wear seatbelts or risk being fined $226 . The annual road toll has dropped in my state from over 1000 in 1970 to around 300 now.

While a lot of people are not happy with the hidden speed camera situation here, where you can be booked for speeding by doing 2Kms/hr (thats 1.24mph) above the speed limit (which is lower than the 10% accuracy of speedometers), 95% of people wear their seatbelts.

I'm sure other factors have also contributed to the lowering of the road toll over the years, including better cars and roads, and increased enforcement of drink driving laws, but I'm sure seat belt laws have contributed also.
Here it is the drivers responsibility to ensure any passenger under the age of 16 also wears their seatbelt, and can be fined accordingly.

I personally have been in a head on crash between our car, an early 80s Mazda doing 40mph, and a Toyota HiLux with a big bull bar doing 50mph, and feeling damn lucky we were both wearing seatbelts. Probably would be dead or severely injured.

Cheers
Terry

I put it on in other people's cars because some people do have a problem with it, I was on company biz and the rules with them state that while on biz to wear a seatbelt. if it's part of my job then fine I'll wear one, I'm not agaisnt wearing seatbelts and truth be told I'd more than likely wear one if it was legal not to wear one. I am not the best driver in the world nor even close, I doubt many of us can even fathom the amount of times we missed an accident and never knew.
