Ray,
I suspect they might have been heading to a emergency call and didn't have time to bother with you.
I was once already stopped for speeding (cop standing next to my car) and the cop got a call over his radio and said "I got to go" and tossed my license and insurance card in my lap and said "slow it down" and with that got in his cruiser and took off lights and siren on fully.
Either way a good story with a happy ending....for both of us.

Two weeks ago this past Wednesday, I was on my way home from work, had just gotten on the highway (65 limit) and in about a half mile I rounded a curve and there was a trooper in the median. I hadn't set the cruise yet and last I noticed was doing about 78. I let up and slowed down as I passed him - doing 72 at that point. He hesitated, then pulled out slowly, no lights so I thought he'd just tail me a bit. I kept it at 70. Then he turns on the lights, so I pull over.
No questions other than for my license and registration. I gave him both. He came back in a couple minutes, handed me my documentation and handed me a ticket with instructions. I put it on the seat next to me and took off. We were near the exit for the barracks and I noticed he got off. It was 4:15 and probably about the end of his shift.
Sunday I'm reading the ticket. It was written up for a black Chrysler Crossfire. I was driving my white Kia Amanti. Subtle differences between the two cars. I had handed him the wrong registration and he never caught it. Real observant. He never bothered to verify the license plate number either.
So, I call my prepaid legal guy and he says he can't help me since the ticket was issued 2 days prior to my account being activated but tells me I'm in trouble. See, this was my third ticket this year and in NY that means automatic suspension.
Yesterday, I met with a local lawyer who will fight it for me. But, here's the kicker, the first ticket from last February I was driving the XF, but it was never reported to the DOT so it is not on my record. Did they issue me the fine and just pocket all the money locally???? Maybe. Sounds like they have a nice little racket going.
Anyway, the lawyer will argue to have this one thrown out based on the error. If that doesn't work, he'll then have to tell the judge and ADA that I really have 2 tickets, not just the 1, and try to get it reduced so I keep my license.
Won't know until next month.
That's my story.
