Shuttle Challenger from a different perspective
If you remember the 1986 loss of the space shuttle Challenger, you will remember what it looked like.
But I bet you never saw it from THIS perspective.

Nope, not that perspective.
But I did see it live on TV-eating lunch with a client. I had a bit of trouble working that afternoon...

I saw the originally broadcast of the shuttle explosion. My fatehr had just purchased a new VCR and decided to test out the record function and chose the shuttle launch. So I have seen this mutliple times on tape. Quite distrubing but a very relevant part of this country's history.
Interesting video.
I remember that day well.....me and some buddies were skipping class and sitting at my house smoking some type of green leafy cigarette. 24 years ago.......wow.

I just remember saying to myself .."Holy ****" and got on the phone and started calling everyone I could think of to tell them what had just happened.
I have since transfered the footage to a DVD to preserve a piece to tragic history.
On a side note....I wish I was hangin' out with Apkano ..lol
I was at work with my brother and we decided to turn on the television to check out the launch. We were both shocked by the outcome.
I was at the office whee we didn't have access to a TV. I had to weight to catch it on the evening news.
The weirdest NASA disaster I've ever experienced was Columbia. Shortly after the disaster, changeable highway signs around Dallas read something like "Watch for falling Columbia shuttle debris". Debris was found just southeast of Dallas.

I was just a young cop patroling around looking for people smoking green leafy cigarettes....and watching the launch at the station...we, meaning IN, had connections with a teacher on that shuttle...
I grew up in central Florida where we can see every shuttle launch & feel every sonic boom when they land. I was 12 years old when the Challenger blew up and remember that moment like it was yesterday. I didn't want to do square dancing in gym class that day & pretended to be sick. When I walked outside I looked up in the sky to see the shuttle blowing up. All I thought was "Wow, what a weird smoke trail." I got to the clinic & called my mom. She founded very serious and insisted on talking to the nurse - boy did I think I was in trouble. The nurse started to cry & handed the phone back to me. Her next words were that the Challenger blew up. I remember feeling numb and our whole community ground to a halt. I wasn't alive when Kennedy was shot but my mother said that feeling of numb shock was the same. I remember thinking that I never wanted to feel that way again - of course 15 years later we felt it again on an epic scale, but that's a different set of memories.
