Default Decent night bowling

Just got home from my Thursday night mens commercial league. I had a pretty decent night. I bowled 233, 245, and 223 for a 701. I opened in the 10th in the last game Anyway, my average is 204. It is a five man team with 7 guys on our roster. The low average on our team is 202, so we have a strong team, but it is a handicap league and we always give up loads of handicap to the others teams we bowl. We were league champions last year, and are in contention for a repeat.

Any other avid bowlers in this forum?

I thoroughly enjoy bowling.

However, I have not gone far enough to buy my own shoes or ball.

...I am a 180 average. Which I guess isn't bad for house ball/shoes.

A 180 average is excellent with a house ball. I honestly don't know how many ***** I own. I carry 4 ***** with me when I go bowling. Bowling ***** that is! LOL

I like bowling. I go maybe twice a year though.

I was in a league with some friends a few years back, and I went more often and learned to throw a curve, etc. I think I averaged about 165 or so. That was a handicap league too, although I don't remember how the handicap worked. I'm pretty sure it wasn't high enough to compensate average bowlers enough to beat a team which averages 200+ a game. Back then I had two 236 games, which are still my highest. I think my high series was about 550.

Each league is different on how they determine handicap. This particular league uses 90% of the difference of your average and 220. So, with my 204 average, I get 14 pins handicap. A 165 average would have 49 pins handicap. So, the difference is really close.

Thanks. Yeah I've been wanting to get my own ball/shoes, but just haven't been bowling as much lately since my good buddies that I went with are in Houston and I'm in NJ. F.

I usually only take two ***** with me to the bowling alley...hahahahaha.

I also do not have a traditional "professional" style throw. I have a very controlled two finger throw, with a nice hook. It is probably due to my large hands that I am able to have such control over my hook. Either that or that bazillion games off practice I've had with it.

I think my PB is 242.

Its def. worth buying your own shoes and bowling ball! Saves money when you bowl out of league since you always have your own shoes. Also you can get a decent ball pretty cheap if you get a used one and just get it re-drilled.

I also went bowling last night ended up with 205...221 and 256. PB is 278.

Great job on the 700. They are always nice. I have been bowling in leagues for 20 something years. Up to 4 leagues a week when I had no life, down to zero for awhile and now just one. The league now is 5-person, handicap, same as the OP described. Our averages range from 190 to 209. I am at 200 now which is not bad for not practicing at all and just once a week. The game is easier now than it used to be. I did bowl my 3rd 300 this season after a 15 year break from the 2nd.

I cut back to 1 league a week this year as well, with some occasional subbing on Wed. nights. It def. makes a difference. I used to be in a bowling alley at least 4 nights a week. Now with 4 y.o. and 9 m.o. kids, priorities have shifted a bit.

Yeah, I have had numerous 278s, 280s, 290s, 298s, and 299s. I have had 2 300s.

I bowled in league for ten years(from 8 to 18y/o) and won many city tournaments, leagues and scholarships and my last book average was 187. When I moved to Houston for school I stopped cold turkey as I couldn't afford their stupidly overpriced $6/game(vegas was $1/game) and still afford to eat. With my career as a body man I am often cutting/burning/injuring my hands so I cannot bowl in league any more.

Great series! I gave up bowling so long ago. Averaged 206 back in '97 with a 730 series and a 299 game. I do miss it....

I grew up bowling from the time I was 4. My dad was a great bowler. I gave up bowling for about 15 years, and started back 4 years ago. I am so glad that I decided to get back into it.
