Mazda's 787b Rotary Engine is the best sounding engine I have ever heard. Glad Mazda still keeps the rotary around....

those rotaries are back when they were built well. These new Renesis rotary motors are total junk. For some reason Mazda wanted to make the Apex seals smaller (2mm to 1mm) and that causes problems. Plus the oiling isn't sufficient... #2 rotor will go out easy. Our shop foreman is the only one to work on rotary motors. He can R&R 3 in a day. Too bad Mazda won't let us stock motors (Controlled item). Customer has to wait and we do too.

 

yeah the new rotaries are junk and thats too bad really. i was looking into buying an rx-8 before i bought the crossfire but after doing some research i had mixed feelings about how well the engine would hold up. i love the rotary engine and i think more car manufactures need to pick it back up and see what they can do with it. sadly i think companies won't cause they are too busy building "green" vehicles. i see in the future (maybe 10 years) that sports cars are going to be gone. sure they may try to build "green" sports cars but it won't be the same.

 

Friend at work with an RX-8 and had the entire engine replaced under warranty at 24K miles, thye are absolute ****.

For the F1 sound try the Porsche Carrera GT. It's a beast

 

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, hands down.

We prepped a bunch of exotics for SEMA a couple of years back and I had the chance to drive most of them, including the 599. Heck, walking behind it at idle it sounded better than most cars do at full scream. But when that baby screams, it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Simply awesome.
