OK, I don't ask for much around here...... but I need your guys help now.

A friend of mine has a special needs daughter, she has asperger's disease. she doesn't get to do much, but one thing she likes to do is dance and try to cheerlead. recently she was at a school function and some little POS decided to take a cellphone video of her and post it as a "sped shuffle" on youtube. Youtube personnel don't see this as harassing, even though Meghan has been taking crap about it for a few weeks now and no longer wants to attend any school functions.

does your state has internet harassment laws? if so, the kid that posted the video could end up in major trouble. do a google search to see if there are cyber harassment laws in your state then take it to the local prosecuting attorney.

Unfortuntely it is not harrasment if posted only once . You need a patern of harrassment to get a conviction.
The poster can remove it. I wonder the legality of getting their name and posting it.

Honestly, apkano, the vid didn't appear disparaging at all, but in any event something should be done before the problem escalates.

Bullying is taken very serious nowadays, so if my daughter was getting a hard time at school, I'd head straight to the school's admin office and raise hell. The administrators would be inclined to take prompt action with the POS that shot the vid and any others involved.

Seems that the authorities are more and more aware of the aspects of bullying and have become a lot more proactive in response and prevention.

So have your friend speak up to someone in charge at the school. Pronto.

 

I know its a short film that seems harmless at first until you look at the circumstances. A young lady with a medical condition that makes social interaction hard for her gets basically called a retard (SPED2) on the Internet.

Now having a condition and a label, she is trying to face each day with undoubtedly having snickers and other comments. Don't forget how cruel kids can be! My heart goes out to her.

How would any of you react to a seemingly innocent 5 second video of your daughter plastered on the internet with a derogatory title poking fun of her. Ever look into the eyes of a crushed spirit and try to offer consolement when there isn't any? I have and it's not easy. I hope the kid that posted this someday needs a little compassion. Oh, wait, I remember all kids like him are invincible, thoughtless hard asses and the rest of society is a herd for them to despise and annoy.

I would guess it's a nasty twist on Special Education. Is there a Sped Shuffle 1?

 

yes, he posted a previous vid called SPED shuffle. It also received 6 angry comments concerning his lack of regard for others

In short, people are looking into getting the school involved, youtube themselves involved, even trying to get the parents involved.

Just reading the comments posted about this video has already done wonders for Megan..... I really can't thank you guys enough.

In thinking back on my youth..... I'm sure I've made fun of someone at one point in life...... but I'd NEVER post up a video of someone making fun of them for all the world to see. The sad thing is this just hurts 2 people..... in the short term it hurts Megan, but in the long run (years down the road) it's going to hurt this punk kid as well. Someday he'll look back on this and regret it.

 

You have my support on this. BTW, I read somewhere that Einstein was thought to have aspergers as did Dr Asperger who researched and lent his name to the syndrome
