Massive Explosion
Woke up this morning around 3:30AM, tossed and turned for about a 1/2 hour which woke my Wife up. She wasn't very happy with me waking her up, when suddenly we heard the loudest explosion we've ever heard. I couldn't believe how much it shook our house.
I went outside on our upper deck, where I could see for over a mile South of our home (we live out in the country) but I couldn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary except for some dogs barking way off in the distance.
Turned out a house totally blew up nearly 6 miles from where we live, and snuffed out the lives of two people.

Wow that is scary and it's sad that folks died in the blast.
Back when I lived in Greeley, CO, about 17 years ago, a guy tried to commit suicide by blowing the house up by intentionally leaking natural gas and then lighting a match. He didn't die, but cause a LOT of damage (his house was wiped out and damaged most of the houses on the block).

Natural gas is lighter than air and rises. And it can still easily explode a house. But propane gas (LP) is heavier than air and would fill a house from the flooring first to the ceiling. Propane also has a much higher BTU rating. Making it much more combustable. Thats why LP furnances have smaller orfice's. Connect LP gas to a natural gas orfice--Kaboom! Squirrel Crusher
We've had a couple of those here in the last 20 years or so and they can be really bad. The damage that just a 20# grill cylinder can do is something to see.
sounds like someone didn't fully tighten a line connection soemwhere. why in the world anyone would put the tank in the house is beyond me, it'd be like living on an unexploded bomb left over from the Blitzkrieg which they find even still today every once in a while. Too bad they had to lose their lives in this but probably didn't feel a thing.
