Default Silver XF Ideas!

Ok so as most of you know from my last post, I bought a graphite XF with maroon interior. Well um, my mom liked the car so much she actually bought it from me >.< haha but I only let her do it because I found the color I wanted finally, its silver! While it may not have maroon interior, The exterior color is what I wanted, or alabaster white. My question to everyone is, do you think I should powder coat the rims black? and if so why? What parts of the car should I tint, and if anyone has a silver XF on the site, please post a picture of what yours looks like with black wheels, thanks!! I love this site

wwe had an audi tt at work that was silver. Just too much silver. I think your xf might look good by painting the door handles, mirrors and roof black, Id then go with graphite color rims and slasher strippes in either black with small graphite stripes or vice versa. You could paint your windshild surround too if need be.

Also some custom kick panel lettering that would say crossfire in blk/graphite would pull all the colors together, one thing to keep in mind when doing a project is the viewers eye flow while looking at your car. Arethe colors and trim all balanced? Is it to busy or lacking a touch of color here and there?

If you look at Nina in my sig pic, you can see that Ive got chrome trim, graphite rims and stock silvedr windshield surrounf/handles. Too many colors and to busy so Im painting the surround and handles this summer either red or graphite.

Good luck and enjoy

Contrast is good, but if you switch the surround, handles and other trim to black your eye will be drawn to that point on your car.

That is why I got rid of all silver trim on my black SRT (essentially the opposite of what you want to do) with the exception of the ring around my wheels and exhaust tips. I recently added a 3/4" red stripe around the lower section of the car as well.

Look close and you will see that all the chrome and silver parts are now finished in a glossy black CF, but from a distance it all looks black.

Accent colors look good but because of their contrast, that is where your attention is drawn. You might want to use some electrical tape (peels off easy) to cover the silver trim and stand back to see if you accoplish what you wanted before permanently choosing a contrast color (wheels not included!). I did that when I decided to get rid of the silver. I think it worked out pretty bood. Bottom line, do what YOU like, it's your car. It's kinda fun making a unique car even more so....

Before......

And after

Your car in not "silver". It's Silver Sapphire Blue Metallic. Referred to as SSB around here. Personally, the black is a horrible contrast for wheels or trim on this color. But a black roof that runs from door edge to door edge, followed down the back through and around the license plate cove. The hood would one large stripe as well, that starts out at the width of the roofs black section then tastefully curves to the nose. Oh, and lower the car. These cars don't really lack flash. And it's not like your competing with many other Crossfires in town. Btw, the interior is Called cedar. I got lucky and found one of those. Look in my gallery and you will see my slasher stripes if you wanna know what thats about. As for the trim, I had mine done in House of Kolor's Kosmic Khrome paint that makes the trim look like the metal trim inside our cars. It blends in better with the SSB but still allows for the designers theme.

I think if you want to go with black rims, then maybe look at a couple different options for aftermarket rims rather than powdercoating the factory rims. There are some good options out there. I'm not sure how the black rims would look on the SSB, but hey it is your car and do whatever makes you happy. No matter what anyone else says on here.

...have you thought about maybe graphite colored rims instead? Just a thought.

Nope, no one on this site owns a silver one. Especially not the CICCI President.

Also Regardless of the car color, even if its not silver technically any car color I think looks good with black wheels, I just feel like theres too much lightness on it, so I think I will go with black wheels

You use the word "horrible" so loosely, LOL I hope you are aware black goes with any color, just as white does
