first, ebay chargers you to list, $.25 to $2.50,,, then charges charges you when you sell the idem 9%
I just sold some o-rings that cost me, $2.49 for 8 or them I put two on ebay for $.99,, ebay took 9% that left $.90 for me,,, the o-rings sold for $.99,,pay pal took their 1/3 $.33 postage $.42 so to me i got a total of $.15 fifteen cents,,, oh forgot it cost $.25 to list it i guess i paid 10 to sell my two o-rings. , they got $.67 Post office got 42 out of my pocket i paid $1.09 + the cost of the 0-Ring,,,no wonder this economy is killing people,

Now your first 50 items per month have no listing fees. But the fee if it sells also includes the shipping cost. They will get you one way or another.

As a buyer, I use ebay and Paypal all the time and get great deals as well.

 

My wife buys and sells on ebay all the time. I've done so several times too, but she does it a lot (mostly selling, thank goodness!) and it's amazing what people will sometimes pay for stuff. Things that you could sell at a garage sale for 50 cents to 2 dollars she's dumped for $10 to $50 or more. Hell, she had a cake pan in the shape of a teddy bear that sold a few years ago for almost $60 - for a freakin' cake pan!!! That might have been a dollar item if we'd had a garage sale.

Several years ago I wanted to upgrade a computer I had. I knew the motherboard would support an Intel P4 processor up to 2.8gHz and I was running a 1.6gHz processor at the time. I found a new 2.8 at a killer price so I bought it, installed it, then listed my used 1.6 unit. When it sold and all was said and done, I did the upgrade for a whopping $11 or so.

You do need to shop around though. I've seen people list things on eBay for more money than Amazon charges for the same thing, plus Amazon offers free shipping on purchases over $25. I saved a couple hundred bucks buying a 32" flat screen TV from Amazon instead of any of the eBay listings or even local sales. I see eBay as another source for anything and everything, but I comparison shop with it.

 

I was told by a friend that if you sold an idem for 1.00 that it would cost you to sell and mail it. i had to put something on ebay through Pp to see for my self.,,, i have been using Pp but ,the people that send me money or people i send money ,,is money owed,, and under personal ? money owed and there is no fee.

Ya scared me a bit thar AMX. half my fleet and a significant portion of my plant equipment came off E-Bay. I was afraid there was some Maddoff style rip off going on.

That said, I'm talking major bucks stuff. Not the dollar store items.

In truth E-Bay has gone from a bargain for the seller and the buyer to a commissioned exchange barn. Sadly, not near the bargans or the convenience of the old days. And the cost of using E-bay is up. Lot's of E-stores on the site.

Wanna sell brake shoes? Post 52 ads for the same shoes and cover a whole page with repeated postings.

Funny you should mention this. I've been an ebay seller for 10 years now, and ebay SUCKS now. Hard.

Fees continually increase. They bought paypal, now force you to do transactions through paypal. They now charge you a final value fee on SHIPPING COSTS on top of item costs, which they never used to. Oh, and don't forget they charge you AGAIN 3% on the paypal payment (don't forget shipping).

On top of all of this, sellers now have NO ABILITY to leave negative feedback for buyers. Ebay buyer protection is a joke.

I recently sold a video game on ebay for $60. Took pictures of my receipt, tracking number, invoice with item, and multiple views of item. Shipped the game. Buyer threatens me, uses vulgar language to try to get a refund on the product that I already shipped, and claims "I WILL WIN IF I FILE A BUYER CLAIM". Then says he received an empty package, despite proof of a shipping weight of 2 pounds. Paypal sided with buyer IMMEDIATELY, despite proof of vulgarity and a previous history of screwing sellers. Multiple calls later, I am out full price of item, loss of item, loss of shipping charges, and to top it off, cant even leave the mother fker negative feedback.

You want to get free stuff? Buy an item on ebay and then claim item is "Significantly not as described" and say you received an empty package. You will win, no questions asked. I would bet my life savings on it. It's sickening. The fact is though, they have a monopoly and can do whatever the hell they want to do. It won't be until we see google auctions will we be free... and when that day comes I will laugh as ebay gets it's ***** chopped off and rammed down it's own throat.

I purchased 350z seats for $500 that I never got. Ebay insurance refunded $175. Purchased a 5 channel receiver that "worked" but not correctly. Sold a Lionel car and after the sale the purchaser blackmailed me into refunding 25%. Other than these 3, my 300 other transactions have gone well.

As for the fees on shipping, this is response to sellers offering products for pennies with high shipping fees.

I am real careful whom I purchase from now and use craigslist.com for most of my transactions. None of my auto stuff seems to sell through the respective forums.

Yea, the fees are getting up there but there's no real competition- craigslist.com; boocoo.com? My big "*****" is the search function. Sellers are able to list their universal products as fitting specific models. I have a growing list of sellers omitted form my stored searches. And for my typical searches the real auctions can be as low as 5%.

 

I love ebay.
However, I only buy products through ebay and have never sold an item so I cannot relate to the "sellers" issues being mentioned here. I use it as a tool to find very specific items that are not usually available here in Canada or if available here, the item is highly overpriced. Then I look to ebay for another source.
Can't do without it!!

 

I have no problems actually buying things on ebay. Just don't sell anything unless you want to be a-raped.

 

Without ebay there is no way I could have amassed my collection of Crossfire accessories, tools and spare parts.

 

When you are ready to sell your car, just let me pay you direct the $99.99 and you won't have to worry bout it.

 

There's no reason not to sell on ebay as long as your aware of the fees and risks involved in selling and accepting paypal payments.

I was a seller for almost 10 years and made a ton of money. I renovated my wife's house (now ex) payed 1/3 down on my current home and even paid cash for my Crossfire back in 2004 all from ebay profits. Funny thing is, everything I sold on ebay I bought on ebay and just marketed it differently. I only stopped selling there because of a few recent surgeries (2 years worth!) and the time involved in upkeep on my mini-mansion.

Try your luck on some of the other auction sites. I have several items listed on onlineauctions.com (ola.com). As a founding member I pay a flat rate of $96 a year, guaranteed not to go up, with no listing, relisting or final value fees. I can even accept cash as payment. The listings never expire as long as you're a member or the item sells. For lack of time I've had the same items on for 2 years and still make more than my $96 with occasional sales. Give that site a try, it's only $8 for a month.

 

Just to throw some gas on the fire, wait till Paypal starts 1099ing everyone over a certain (small) amount. They have already made the decision....

 

Yep, it was the jerks selling, for example, a legitimate $50 item for a couple of bucks and then charging $45 for shipping. They got around the sellers fees that way and still got their money. They basically forced eBay into making this change, so blame those schmucks for screwing it up for the honest sellers.

Why? Because people are not smart? All that information was known to you BEFORE you listed the item on eBay. Perhaps you might have considered that selling a $2.49 on eBay is not something worth your time or effort.

 

For the most part, all I have ever bought on eBay is books. I have many technical manuals, some that cost $65 new, and have never paid over $20 (including shipping) for any of them. SOME I've paid under $10 WITH shipping!


I haven 't sold anything on there in at least 6 years. Even back then, the fees seemed kinda high.

 

for the most part you do not know me very well,,,ask Mike-in Orange,, he will tell you i gave away or auction for the forum,hundreds of dollars of parts ,, and i get no money,, but i pay the shipping anyway, so when i give a part i pay the shipping.
