Default Red headed step child

Many times I have read on this forum the term 'red headed step child' used in reference to the Crossfire's origin. With a Canadian and UK background I was not familiar with this term and did some research on it. In general the term is pretty well summed up in this article; Where did the phrase 'beat you like a red-headed stepchild' come from and what does it mean.
It appears to be an American term, probably originating from the south. The things we learn from this forum.

As a former red-head (the Irish setter color), with one brother who also had red hair, and with grandparents and cousins with red hair - that gene was strong in both mother's and father's families (both Irish immigrants way back).

Sometimes it was fun to stand out - sometimes not. Now, as a faded redhead (think blonde) old high school/college male friends say to me 'you used to be a redhead'. And I reply 'you used to have hair'.

Hit 'em where it hurts. OUCH!

True redheads are quite rare, it is a recessive gene and can only be passed by mother and father, not just one of them. You should be proud of that and I'm sure you are.

Genes gave me a full head of hair at my age as they did my father and grandfather, I'm glad of that.

Hmmm? I pictured you as a bald man stomping your feet. Wonder where I got that idea?

Can someone please tell me if the old Cherley Sheen movie is from the Viking era????

I may need to check myself into another history class.
