I saw this special on TV. If you ask me, the car should shut down when the key fob (or whatever you call it) moves like 30-40 feet away from the car.

 

You would probably be surprised at how many people warm their cars up in the garage when it is cold, they have the big door open though for safety . The same people call the FD because their CO detector is alarming.

 

There was a family here that was grilling in garage. That evening they moved grill into house to keep house warm, no one died but several went to hospital.

I personally went to a home where the owner had just brought her home, and went to hospital for co poisoning Turned out that home inspector had removed furnace front panels, then reinstalled panels incorrectly . He put middle louvered panel in blower location, which resulted in drawing flue gas into supply air system. Granted this was a very old furnace. Now manufactures have redesigned panels to where it is not easy to install panels incorrectly.

We find while servicing and inspecting furnaces ,that many furnaces are producing over the acceptable co out the flue system which is 99ppm, we have found over 4000 ppm. Now for the most part the hi flue co has not resulted in any problems. But the potential for a dangerous occurrence is there!
If you have your furnace checked, try and find a NCI combustion trained tech ARE EQUIVALENT , they should have a combustion analyzer, that measure co in parts per million, and oxy content.

DO NOT COUNT ON A CO DETECTOR THAT U BUY AT THD ARE LOWES ETC GOING OFF BEFORE YOU HAVE A MEDICAL ISSUE.

GET A LOW LEVEL CO DETECTOR, A LOT OF DETECTORS THAT ARE USED IN BOATS ARE THE LOW LEVEL TYPE
