Default Bought a battery lately?

I did-yesterday. The boy's Lincoln wouldn't start and had to replace the 8 (!) year old Duralast (Autozone) battery.

$131.

The manager was called to revive me, and as I was sipping water, told me that due to 7 new EPA regulations on battery manufacturing processes, the price nearly doubled overnight.

And he was forced by his regional management to up the prices of in-place stock immediately.

I walked through WallyWorld and looked at the 48R (Crossfire) battery replacement and it was $97.

I paid $62 last year.

Danged greenies!

My son left the headlights on overnight in my SRT6 over the weekend. The battery is the original OEM unit from 2005, now about 8 years old but with only 35,000 miles on it.

Anyway, the car won't start (obviously) but won't take a jump either. Hint, no spark from the negative jumper when grounded to the chassis or even the terminal (yep, went there).

I'm thinking it's not worth trying to put a charge on the old battery. It may not be reliable after that sort of stress with the age.

So, I checked the Sears website for a DieHard and all they list for the Crossfire is a single battery ($149.99) for "V6-3199 3.2L SOHC". Are the batteries for the Base, Limited, and SRT6 all the same?

OK did some research...........

Advance | Autocraft Gold | 48H6 | 770 CCA | $135.99

Autozone | Duralast Platinum | H6-AGM | 730 CCA | $159.99

Autozone | Duralast Gold | H6-DLG | 600 CCA | $135.99

Sears | Die-Hard Gold | H6/48 | 730 CCA | $149.99 | Apparently not available/sold in CT. Environmental???

Opinions?

Looks like the Autocraft Gold is the best deal. Anyone have experience with the brand or Advance as a retailer?

I bought the Interstate MTP-91 for my roadster in April and it was around $145. The last time I bought one was for the coupe about 3.5 years ago and it was $100. I attributed the extra cost to inflation and cost of materials. I should have factored the EPA. argh!

I just got a mailing from my Chrysler dealership with a price of $89.95 for a Mopar battery. The mailer had my name and my VIN number on it. I called the parts guy, and he said that he had them in stock to fit the Crossfire. I went there today, and I asked the service manager if this coupon would work for the Crossfire. After going back to talk to the parts guy, he came back and said that they would honor the coupon. I'm having it put in on August 13th at 10AM. Oh, it doesn't include installation - do you think they'll charge me $300 for installation?

!
This looks like the way they price gasoline, oil goes up and the price at the pump goes up immediately, oil price goes down and the cheaper gas has to work its way through the system.

These people will lead the general public into a revolution before they change their ways, by then they will have fled the country or find themselves in deep doo doo.

I wonder if you can buy Chinese batteries, they don't care sh!te about the environment. They recycle lots of lead batteries, but maybe they are just making bullets from them.

The original is a VARTA available in Europe; with the following specs: 74 Ah, CCA-680A EN (700A SAE), RC 150min. Mopar part # 48-70, Cat. # 48.

I just bought a battery of batteries. to use them in my solar electric generating system. The pay back is quick. Perhaps I'll tie into the grid to sell surplus. gary

Gramps, you are right on all accounts here. And I think the EPA restricts import of "high impact" (ecologically speaking) items. If they aren't made in a green manner anywhere, we can't import them.
