I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I read his posts and noticed his enthusiasm on this site, especially his love to travel to meets.
I saw his obituary and I have added the site here.
Dave's obituary.

MAWDSLEY, David
It is with heavy hearts the family of Dave Mawdsley, announce his passing on December 8, 2012, at the age of 65. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. Dave is survived by his loving wife Carol; children, Kevin (Janelyn) and Emma; and grandchildren, Patrick, Czia and Devlin; all of Edmonton; mother Joyce and brother Ian of Southport, UK.
Dave was born to Hector and Joyce Mawdsley, Southport UK on June 7, 1947. His formative years were spent in and around Southport. At the age of 15, Dave became an apprentice electrician and continued in the trade achieving certified journeyman status.
During his early years in the trade, Dave worked at sites in the UK, Europe and the North Sea. He married Susan (Miley) on Nov. 30, 1969 in Southport.
Dave and his young family immigrated to Canada in 1978 where he established a Canadian heat treatment company for a UK heat treatment and played a key part in the development of the heat treatment industry in Canada. Residing in Leduc and then Edmonton, Dave continued his career in heat treatment becoming an expert in all aspects of the heat treatment industry and a promoter of a unionized workforce for the industry until the time of passing. Dave personally trained a great number of the supervisory heat treatment technicians and managers currently working in Canada. Sadly in 1982, Susan passed away leaving Dave as a single parent.
Dave was a scuba diving enthusiast and trainer, a lifetime fan of Liverpool Football Club and enjoyed watching NASCAR.
While on a scuba diving vacation in 1990, Dave met his soulmate Carol. Dave and Carol were married Oct. 5, 1991 in Atlanta. As newlyweds, they made their home in Edmonton's west end and continued to happily live there. As a couple, they both loved to travel and did so frequently.
Dave had a knack for lifting the spirits of those around him and always served up his nuggets of wisdom wrapped in humour.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's memory to the University Hospital Foundation, 1H1.91 WMC, 8440-112 Street, Edmonton, AB T6G 2B7

My thoughts go out to his family during these very difficult times.

This is too sad!!
We met Dave and Carol at CAA1, they were such a neat couple, very fun to be around, thought I was going to laugh my head off at the explanation of his moniker.
Dave will be missed...
Our prayers and thoughts go out to Carol and the family.

Just met Dave over the summer this year and was excited that the Northwest is going to try to have an annual run like they do in the Carolina's. He was very knowledgable about the Crossfire and was a good man for information. Will truly be missed. I believed he recieved one of the t-shirts for being the longest Crossfire to run with the rest if us in Yakima. Thanks Dave for your suggestions andhaving a good time at our dinner.
