so was cruising down a back road at triple digits and and a deer runs out infront of me I slam on the brakes(should have had Jims installed lol) and barely make it around it... i had to get out and take a breather after that one haha...

Slow it down a little and just enjoy the car.
We don't want to hear on the Forum or in the news about a Crossfire and driver being involved in a wild high speed crash. At those speeds on the back roads of S.C., I would be more worried about an opossum or turtle. They can send you airborne in an instant. Besides I am betting you are still on your parents insurance and to quote my late Father..
"Keep it up and you will be pedaling everywhere"...

Yeah.. like senior year floorboarding my 66 impala on a rollercoaster downhill run.. and toping the next hill at 110 mph and going airborne on a two lane road with oncoming traffic..

Mustang 50 ft. in front of me in oncoming lane probably still smells like **** with dark stain in seat..

Oh.. and when I wrecked that one a few months later.. me and the rest of the autoshop boys swapped the engine into this one in two hours..

But the roads I "speed" on are straight and have no roads or houses off them. Just clearing that up!! I hate having problems with people so if I offended anyone I am sorry! I totally get where you're coming from. Having approached speeds that I didn't think were even possible in a production auto, I definitely relate.

However, (and I think this is where experience comes into play) aside from roadside surprises being the #1 killer (no pun intended), you have a litany of items to account for.



The short of it is this: On a private track rental (yes, I swear) I made a few warm-up laps to get the "lay of the land". Figuring the back straight was fairly smooth and level I decided to pin the throttle on the heat.

As I came out of the right-hander, it was throttle down and the 6.1L breathed to life. I was pulling some big numbers as I crossed through the halfway point when out of nowhere....

I was airborne.

How did this happen? -Well I went back over that same stretch later at a much lower speed and discovered the slightest dip in the road. Overall it was probably a 2-3" drop spanned over 50 or so feet; just enough to act like a ramp on the incline side.

Believe it or not, I didn't die and hope that sharing this with you lends some concept to the greater picture.



So to close my little lecture here, think of it like this... If you're not 100% certain that everything in the list below is in check, don't do it.

Folks who would miss your crazy azz
Bystanders (and those who would miss them)
Alignment
Wheel balance
Tire pressure
Suspension
Brakes (don't forget at those speeds you need at least 3x the normal runout to slow your azz down!)
Fauna
Weather conditions
Road conditions
Legality

The other year some kid raced down a back road here and took air, when he came down he lost control, rolled the car and all three were killed, all 18 and under.
Someone had to tell their parents.

 

And let's just throw in never exceed vehicles intended passenger capacity...
