I posted a link to the MB SLK web page that refers to the car as a Roadster and the fact that our cars were marketed as Roadsters both in print ads and brochures. That basically had the same effect on the purist as poking a bear with a big stick. Bottom line, after three pages of responses there are maybe 6 photos of cars.

My car was marketed as a roadster and I always considered an open top two seat car a roadster. Besides I didn't wait 40 years to buy a 2 seat convertible even if that is technically what I bought. Just curious what others here think.
I have noticed an increase in the term roadster used in reference to some motor cycles. In particular the Cam-Am and Triumph rocket. If you think about it I suppose the purists definition is applicable, two seater without a top or side curtains!

My 1973 Norton Commando is called a roadster because it was designed for high speed road work. Just as my Crossfire is. My Triumph Rocket 3 was modified by me for very high speed road work. It was sold as a "cruiser". I don't cruise..

This ain't no convertible so it must be a roadster. This is basic motoring, if it rains you get wet.

I'm good with calling mine a "sports car roadster". If purists do not like it, too bad!

Not sure where you are getting the idea that a "roadster" has no top. If it had none (or an erector set) it would be a speedster. A roadster can have a top (and roll up windows) it must just disappear completely under the tonneau (as does the Crossfire and the Reatta and a XK-150s Jag).

If it has a convertible top that does not disappear (even if under a fabric boot), it is a "convertible (coupe)", "drop-head", or a "cabriolet" (not going to get into retractables, phaetons, or sendanicas).

ps I go by Unka Tom's definition of a Sports Car as one that can be driven during the week and raced on the weekend.

Speaking of which I may need to find a local autocross. Would need to know how to completely disable the traction control though...

CrossfireForum.org - stevieb's Album: Member Galleries - Picture

Just disconnect the center 50 amp wire. No more traction control, or anti-locks.

Which part of post 26 did you miss ? See here for what is used in judging though strictly speaking if a roadster has a top it must not be visible when down and may have roll up windows.
