Roadster, think not
I started a thread on another forum that I frequent that was intended to be a picture thread of peoples roadsters. It only took to the second reply to jump the tracks and turn into a discussion of what a "REAL"
roadster is. I did not know that real roadsters have no top or side windows, at least according to the purist. According to them we have 2 seat convertibles and being in the 21st century doesn't excuse such modern inventions as tops and side windows.
I posted a link to the MB SLK web page that refers to the car as a Roadster and the fact that our cars were marketed as Roadsters both in print ads and brochures. That basically had the same effect on the purist as poking a bear with a big stick. Bottom line, after three pages of responses there are maybe 6 photos of cars.
My car was marketed as a roadster and I always considered an open top two seat car a roadster. Besides I didn't wait 40 years to buy a 2 seat convertible even if that is technically what I bought. Just curious what others here think.

You are just a wuss.
my 1950 MGTD is a roadster. If it was raining, you got wet, top up or down. If it was cold you got cold. If it was hot, you got hot feet. Drove it three years every day.My Crossfire is like a space ship. Not a roadster...
People love to argue semantics. The Crossfire models with the cloth top that goes up and down might have been marketed as a roadster by Chrysler, but called a convertible by others. Big whoop. Besides, is the Crossfire a Chrysler or a Mercedes Benz? It was marketed as a Chrysler, but it's almost entirely Mercedes Benz underneath. But neither brand's dealer network wants to work on it, either because the badging is wrong or the mechanical components are wrong. I'm always attracted to cars that are a bit, um, different. And I sure got that with my Crossfire. And I love my Crossfire, regardless if someone wants to call it a roadster, convertible, OTS, drop top, 'vert, rag top, etc.
The term "roadster"has been re interpreted here in the USA with more variation than a democratic lawyer in congress.
Even a big sedan can be called a "roadster"by some marketing people. Not sayin it's right but so what
Purist that I am says, a modern two seat vert is sufficient for the badge. But it must be a roadster with a stick to count.
But then as JHM2Kwould say, I just ain't right in the head.

Touche. So now I have to change my sig?, I gotta stop starting threads. Maybe I should hibernate for the winter like the XF.
So far as my opinion:
Since the top is invisible when down, have one of the "purists" (read: puerilists) prove that your top even exists. Without touching the vehicle.
For that matter, the side curtains.
If one wants to make a Crossfire roadster a bit faster, remove all of the above. and satisfy them.
Schmucks will be schmucks. Me included!

At a car show once, it started to sprinkle and I put my top up. A spectator said "LOOK AT THAT !!! IT EVEN HAS A TOP HIDDEN AWAY IN IT !!"
Odd, I never actually checked iwth Webster's, but I thought the "roadster" label meant "two seat convertible".
For example: NO ONE would call a MUSTANG a roadster, it is a convertible, it seats 5 people.

Well, I have always thought, if it has two seats and was a convertible, it would be classified as a roadster....but, who really cares other than if you want to argue with what the car's name is. Chrysler called it a roadster...
OKAY, since we are talking about something serious.....I'll take this driveby shot... Roadster or not.....Is our Crossfire a Sports car?

today I had to take two rear tires I'd bought online in another car to get them to the installer since not even one would fit in my SRT6 ROADSTER...which is a sports car for sure - it sure isn't good for anything else but tons-o-fun.
Yes, all Crossfires are Sports cars:
1) They are built for driving 'sporty' - that is, they can turn a drive into real FUN.
2) There is NO reason to buy one and drive it, but for fun. The car does little else well: It seats only two people, it can carry no cargo.
3) It has rear wheel drive - which means it was built with something OTHER than cheap assembly in mind.

you just have to poke a stick into things, don't you?
Until I can drink booze again, I'm jus' gonna be nasty company.
