I was wondering who on the forum is really good with ideas for interior "solutions".
I'm trying to figure out a way to keep my dog in the cargo area of my new coupe. She doesn't ride well in the front at all (if she's not trying to drive herself, she shaking or and i didn't think it was possible, jumping from front to back constantly).
I had one idea - putting in the roadster chrome bars, then fabricating (or buying) a plexi windscreen (and then doing a cutout for additional ventilation). BUT if anyone had a simpler idea (other than her not being in the car) any ideas welcome.

And yes, I'm ready to take a ribbing on the dog in the xf.

I'm fresh out of gorilla glue, but I may have some ducktape somewhere . . .LOL

 

I would think one of the clear wind deflectors so many of us Roadster owners use would work just fine. The ones sold at http://www.dynamicautoconcepts.com/ mount using just the umbrella holder clips (pull the screws out, remove the clips, insert the wind deflector, replace clips and screws) so you wouldn't need to install anything permanent in your car. You and your dog would still have nice clear views in both directions - although I suspect nose prints would appear on the cargo side pretty quickly!

I know the bulkhead shapes are different but it should do the trick.

 

thank you "mike-in-orange" I haven't actually seen one of those deflectors and I was hesitant about ordering it not knowing how it actually attached -

What size is your dog?
I have a Shitzu/Poodle (11 pounds) and I have a car seat she rides in. It fits over the passenger seat and provides a comfortable seat for her to ride in, her harness clipped to the seat. It rides high enough she can look out the windows.

That's what those hooks on the bulkhead are for!

 

There's also one that just attaches with Velcro strips. This one you can remove when you don't have your pooch with you.

 

"theglot"- she's an american staffordshire terrier (similar to pitbull)- she's about 56 lbs- she's just a freak in the car- in my daily driver (subaru forester) i have her in the back with a metal divider- she's never been a calm car rider- she also has bad hips/knee problems so i try to keep her contained as much as possible when driving (she's also a clutz) but i luv her.

 

My Shitzu/Poodle never learned to enjoy riding in the car - my first dog that hasn't. What a pain, but also she doesn't get to ride with me often. Yours may be a little big for this seat, but they may make one big enough for her.

 

I contacted "dynamicautoconcepts" and spoke with them about it all- i'm sending them some pics and dimensions of the bulkhead and mounting areas on the coupe to see how we can customize one of their windscreens- they were really great about it all and I think i gave them a good giggle over it - they said they were always up for a new challenge (i seem to be getting that alot lately- I have to meet with arai helmets in the next couple of weeks because my head is too small for their xxxs motorcycle helmet and they are going to do a custom fit at one of their distributors for me- i'm a complete freak! LOL)

Those velcro to the roll hoops though - something the coupe lacks.

 

There was a windscreen I saw that was a metal frame with mesh that extended the full length across and behind each seat. The dog will most likely start scratching and chewing at the mesh (or Plexiglas) trying to get to you. The Plexiglas screens are ~$200 for the ones that cover just the center area between the two seats. DIY ... You could go to Home Depot and build up a PVC frame ($10) using 1/2 inch PVC and a few 45 and 90 degree elbows, then cover it with a mesh type fabric or cargo netting. This will allow the dog to get good air flow. And that way, if the dog starts chewing things up, you are not out a lot of money. If the dog is well behaved and does not go bonkers in the back seat like a lot of kids I know, then you can opt for a better looking custom windscreen solution. Go to www.windrestrictor.com . They do custom art work. Put your dogs image in neon lighting.
