Default Power Seat

Took my XF in to the dealer yesterday - drivers power seat stopped working.
Interesting problem; how do you get a seat out of a car when you can't move it? That's their problem, but they told me it would be $360 to remove the seat and they needed authorization in case it wasn't covered under warranty. Humm.... how could it not be covered under warranty I asked?

If it was a frayed or broken wire, they answered.

Hopefully I will find out tonight. They said they hoped to have it fixed today, good thing they provide a rental car when the XF is in the shop for warranty work.

I asked a dealer to take a look at one of my rear wheels (the surface is peeling off) to see if it is a possible warranty replacement.

I was told that all they can do is take a picture of the wheel and try to get approval for warranty replacement because they can't do warranty work on wheels or seats with approval from the manufacturer.

Thought maybe this info could help!

Well, they found a broken wire so it wasn't covered under warranty. $500. I keep asking myself how a wire could get broken when I NEVER put anything under the seat.

When I picked the car up it was raining so I got in, checked that the seat worked and drove home. By the time I got home it had quit raining so the first thing I did was wash my car (of course). Wiping down the door sills, and, "oh ****", they gouged my door sill and the black plastic piece that goes between the sill and the carpeting.

Now I have to take it back and argue with the dealer that his mechanic did all this damage and get his body shop to fix it.

And I can easily see why. I took out both of my seats multiple times.. the first time I just tried pulling the seat out.. **** that did not work. I scratched the hell out of my sill.. it's VERY easy to do.

My recommendation, put cardboard or something down over the sill when taking the seat out.. or perhaps tell the dealer this so they don't scratch your sill. You could argue that you shouldn't have to tell them anything like this - but do you want to spend the extra minute telling them what to do to make sure there are no scratches on your sills or spend days / hours / etc arguing and possibly not getting scratched sills replaced.

Thanks for the encouragement.
I can easily see how you could scratch the sills trying to get the seats out. Especially when the power seat is not working so it can't be moved.
But, these guys are supposed to be professionals and for $500 I expect them to be careful.

We will see what the dealer says tomorrow.
