Default can't adjust seat without opening door

Doesn't this drive anyone else crazy? Is it supposed to be safer for me to hold the door open with my knee while driving down the freeway in order to adjust the seat when I need to change my driving position??

Is there an easy fix to disconnet or override this "safety feature"
Thanks
dd

I wasn't aware that you couldn't adjust it with the door closed.
Jest a sec. I'm gonna go check my cars.

I adjust mine all the time while driving. That is not a normal condition.

Mine will adjust in the following: door open, engine off, door closed, engine running. If I close the door with engine off then I can't adjust the seat. I thought this was by design?

i had issues with my seat during cleaning. according to the manual the electric seats should operate with the key on or off. nothing at all in the manual about the doors needing to be open or closed.
my fix was a loose connection caused by the seat being moved all the way forward then back and a plug came loose. maybe check all the connections?

That is the way mine works. Actually, the engine doesn't have to be running, just the ignition turned on. If the ignition is off and the door closed the seat won't adjust.
If you do a search on this you will find this explanation of this German engineering feat.

"It does make absolute sense. There are two pockets behind the seat that can be used to hold things (flat things). If you have the top open and the car locked, you don't want someone to be able to just reach in and move the seat forward and grab whats in those pockets. Thats why you can only move the seats with the door open(meaning you have the key to unlock the door) or with the ignition on and the doors closed. Similar to the reason why they made the central locking button deactivated once the engine is turned off, so that it prevents someone from reaching in and unlock the doors and alarm when you park with the top down."

I assume this is a carryover from the SLK design since the first Xfires were coupes?

I have just purchased a Crossfire Coupe here in UK and cannot move the seats without the door being open.
With the engine either on or off, the seats wont move if the doors are closed.

Can anyone help a damsel in distress?

My '04 will only allow me to adjust the seats with the either door open and the ignition on or off. This is a PITA when you want to adjust the seats when driving.
I have studied the electrical diagrams and I can see where the door ajar switch fits into the equation. My problem is I cannot see why the power that comes from the ignition does not work on my car.
These wiring diagrams are quite complicated, a simple diagram that you think you understand will fail to show another important part of the circuit. Multiple diagrams are required to see the intricacy of the whole circuit and how each relates to the other.
I suspect that my troubles are related to the power seat relay itself.

My 2006 Roadster is now suffering from the same problem, but it's intermittent. When I got it, I could adjust the seat with the door closed as I was driving down the road. (I do this fairly frequently due to an old back injury.) Recently it stopped working this way. Then it works again for awhile, then quits again.

Are there connectors under the seats that I can check? Thought I'd ask before crawling around looking for them (stupid back problem you see).

I've had it in to Chrysler twice...of course it worked fine for them both times even though it wasn't working when I dropped it off. Very frustrating...

Had my car in the Chrysler garage and they say it's a faulty relay switch - £16.00 plus 2 hours labour.
The car dealer is picking up the tab

Mine does the same thing and I am not sure that it had ever worked with the car moving or not.
I'll look for the relay and report back.

I now have seats that can be moved with the car doors shut!

The faulty relay switch was replaced and tab picked up by the garage I bought the vehicle from.
I am now one happy teddy

I fixed mine for 10 cents, and a lot of time which was cheap as that's what I have plenty of.
