Default Seat Relay - Repairing or Replacing

I had the problem which allows the power seats to be moved only with the door open and the ignition ON or OFF. The seat would only move when the door is closed with the ignition ON.See the PDF above for the repair.CLICK
If replacing the part; The part number to be replaced is;MB #002 542 22 19 or Siemens Part #72KD305 it is probably cheaper to buy using this part number, or Chrysler #05104857AA? do not use the Chrysler number, too expensive.

Thanks for the offer Steve but I have got this far and it will not be too tough to put back together, I hope. I did not loose too much blood taken it apart.

NEW 10 X 1N4007 1A 1000V Rectifie Diodes - eBay (item 220625110259 end time Nov-16-10 21:45:37 PST)
PM me your address and I will mail you a couple that will work, no charge.
It is best to get the SM4007 for a neater appearance if you can and you will not have the wires to bend and cut.
SM stands for surface mount, just as the ones there now.

onehundred80 - your the best seat is fixed!!!! I have tested and tried it all differant ways i can in my driveway only time will tell if i did it correct or if the car burns down then i may have messed something up. but thank you again for the pictures and the part.

anyone that does this you have to remove the screw under the steering wheel lock and remove that plastic piece to find two more screws to remove.

I'm glad it worked for you. Why waste money when a simple fix does the job and you also get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

How do you test the relay to see what part is fried?

I have a digital multimeter, but the diode I found to be at fault could be tested using a bulb and a battery.
Diodes only let the power through one way, I used the buzzer feature of the meter and found that power went through the good diode only one way, but the other diode did not let any power through in any direction. This indicated that no power was getting to the seat switch with the door closed and the ignition on.
If you can put your hand on the relay and open the door you can feel the relay 'click' as it opens, shutting the door you can feel the same click as the door shuts.
If you have good ears you can operate the door switch and hear the relay click.
The seats now operate with the doors open with the ignition on or off or with the door closed and the ignition on.
The Mercedes sites mention the fact that this relay may have dry solder joints that cause problems.

I'm having the same issue with my 2005 Crossfire. I took it to the dealer and they could not figure it out. The suspected it to be the seat switches. When they work, the seats only move when the doors are open. Are they suppose to operate with the doors closed? I can now take this information to the dealer and hopefully get it fixed through my extended warranty.

CORRECTION
Yes, they should work with the doors open without the ignition being 'ON'.
The problem lies in the relay as explained in post #1 of this thread.
The relay needs to be fixed as explained or replaced.

Recent experience...... 12/27/2010 bought a used 2005 Coupe Limited

Horn wasn't working.... they replaced the Horn module... took 14 days to arrive.

Ready to drive it off the lot and attempted to adjust driver seat.... nothing, and same for the passenger side. Both had been working when I dropped it off.

Informed the Horn module had no association with the power seat movement.

About 45 minutes later the problem was corrected, and didn't bother to ask what, or where the problem was. There was no charge to correct this.

In my case, the seats wont move unless I turn the ignition on, doors open or closed. I thought this was normal until I read this thread. Do you think it would be the other diode that would be defective Dave?

sooo, my issue is: seats wont operate with doors open and ignition off

Dave,
"Yes, they should work with the doors open or closed, with or without the ignition being 'ON'".

Okay, what about this from page 8N-95 of the 2005 service manual ? "The driver side power seat switches are operational with the driver door open, regardless of the ignition switch key position. If the driver door is closed, the ignition switch key must be turned to the ON/RUN position".
