ive looked all around the forum, and cant seem to find anyone who mentioned it...has anyone tried putting a custom HUD in their xf? something similar to this....

I think someone in Europe has one... his car was modified to the extreme if I remember right... don't know the name/car though, sorry. (99% he put one in his car though, I remember wanting one but looking at the price and said no thanks)

there ya go, search around and see the different models and all of what is required. it gets expensive quick. but i run DEFI gauges in my 3000GT and they are terrific quality, that said, i'm not gunna spend the coin for a HUD at that price when i can just glance down...

This is an old post but I figure I start here. Has anyone pursued HUD since?

I found this on eBay and I'm kinda tempted. It hooks up to OBD connector and that's it! (if we believe the seller).

Speed is displayed only in KPH,

Other than that, it looks decent!

And how long is the cable?

And the "Reflective Film" would be illegal in a few states. It might work without it at night, though.

That's one of my other questions to the seller too. Our OBD is near the hood release, so... the cable better be long enough for decent placement on dash.

Thanks for that. I bought a Nitrod VPM 100G a few years back as a scan tool and realtime data monitor. One of the really cool things it does is reverses both the text layout and the backlighting. It works as an HUD very well. Displays 3 outputs at a time with one taking 50% of the display. The other 2 split what's left. The reflected display is ~ 1 1/2" tall by ~ 3" wide. Only displays white/blue (or blue/white) but works very well for everything it was advertised for.

Besides, at night I really only want the speedo, anyways.

I hope it lasts a long time because they went out of business.

 

The unit sounds cool... thanks for mentioning that they went out of business. I looked quick, no one is selling them anymore. How does it look at nite with the HUD? Just curious...

I will have to do some research if I'm seriously interested in the HUD unit I found on eBay. I would hate to dump $200 and the unit sucks or don't last... wish someone has one for some first hand review.

 

The way this one displays is nice-just white lettering floating in the windshield. The one you posted looks much cooler. Having the tach displayed would be nice. But I have an automatic-not that important. I don't drive hard at night.

On the other one-ask the seller to have other owners contact you with a review? I've asked that before on eBay and gotten results!
