Default I dyed my steering wheel

I have the vanilla/black interior and my steering wheel looked gross. I had a steering wheel cover on it, but I hate those things. They never look quite right. And I like the feel of the real thing in my hand

Attached pics of before and after.

What do ya think?

I kinda dig it - but wish the finish weren't quite so shiny. Maybe I should sand it down with a 120 grit sp and take off some of that sheen. We'll see. I'm gonna let it grow on me for a while and then decide.

Now hows that work for the Grey wheels?

I am assuming they make leather dye in a variety of colors. I used Fiebings, and I think all they had at Fleet Farm was black or brown. I saw a bunch of others online though that say they can color match.

Ya know, I had a snappy come back for that, but I don't think it would be appropriate to post it on a public forum...ha ha. Let's just say, in this case, tension is a good thing and leave it at that

p.s. LOVE your XFire! I was torn when I bought mine, but I really wanted a convertible and I read that less than 3% of all XFire's made were like mine, Alabaster w/Vanilla and black interior. Had to get it and loved it ever since!

And your white XF looks GREAT! Love the steering wheel dye job too! I am sure your going to mod the heck out of it in the comming years, and it looks fantastic already. Your def on the right track for this forum, and your not afraid to get into it and do some radical things. All the best! Hey, are you going to make the Tail-Of-The-Dragon this year?

Well thanks, I appreciate that! I am a DIY person that's for sure. And even if I don't know how, I'll research something until I am confident I can do it without too many hiccups.

I have some other mods in mind already. I want to change out the orange side markers, hate those. Probably going to do all reds. Then I want to add a red illuminated door guard sill and the red illuminated wind blocker with the Roadster text. Oh - and I want to add a pin stripe - haven't decided where exactly or what design, still thinking on that one. Then after all the cosmetic stuff, gonna open up the hood and start a new mod list, lol!

As far as the Tail-Of-The-Dragon, that's still up in the air - but Lord willing, I plan on being there. I haven't been able to make one yet, sniffle sniffle

Thanks, Andrew! It took me quite a while, mostly because of the prep work involved. I was going to do the entire wheel black but thought since the inside was two-tone that the steering wheel should be too. I kinda like it two-toned, it's different - in a good way - like me

Also thought about blacking out the entire interior, but not sure if I want to go that far....just yet...ha ha.

Houston, we have a problem - I got in the car, basically just to admire it, lol, and noticed that the dash looks dull now compared to the steering wheel column, which I dyed black also when I dyed the steering wheel. I used the same dye as on the wheel itself and it worked great. You can really see the difference if you look at the pics, especially pic 3. Compare the steering column to the upper dash.....hmmmm.

Should I? Dare I?

I was just commenting to Andrew that I was considering that, and considering blacking out the entire interior, but not sure I want to go that far. I'll do some photoshop work and see what it looks like. I kinda dig the two-tone.

Black center would still be two toned wouldn't it? LOL.. I wonder if some steel wool wouldn't take the high sheen off.. and leave you satisfied..
