Replacement key/Key fob?
My guess is that the electronic part of the fob is OEM but the key part has been changed to fit the new lock cylinders that were replaced. Dealers were inclined to replace all the lock cylinders when they were fixing the Sticky Key problem. These new cylinders came with there own keys that fitted them, they then threw away the OEM key part and fitted the new keys to the OEM fobs.
The phone rep was confused when you mentioned recoded locks and decided you could not have a new key, maybe they saw you as a potential security threat. I would order a new key but not mention the recoded cylinders, when you get the key get a new key cut and fit it in place of the existing OEM one that comes with the new fob.

Another option would be to source a complete set of electronics from a donor car. Preferably with 2 fobs
they are listed on EBay from time to time.
You will need
ECU
BCM
TCU
SKREEM
ignition cylinder
drivers door lock
glove box if available
I believe the coupe and Roadster are different so you’ll need to ask the questions
I would strongly suggest that you ask for the title when purchasing. This should not pose a problem for the seller. If you’re selling off these items, it’s more than likely that the donor is already beyond repairable. Title will be required if you want to purchase a new fob in the future.
Prior to purchase, pull a vehicle report to discover the reason the donor car was scrapped. If it’s because of water (flood) take a pass.

There us a way to buy one
it’s going to cost you between $700-800
(unless you live in Canada, they are less here)
contact Rob from Needs wings
with Vin and proof of ownership you can acquire a fob for the car
in the event the key is incorrect due to changes from a previous owner, then I would also recommend purchasing a set of cheap (new)key fob shells with blade from eBay
have a blade cut from the cheap fob shell and put both together. I would keep both to the side in the event you lose the original. At that time crack open the new fob from Rob and the new fob shell. Make one fob out of two.
As indicated it’s 700-$800
A fix exists. You just have to be prepared to open the wallet.
These are MB under the chrysler skin. As a consequence parts and labour are expensive.
Old cars wear out and break down. They cost money to maintain.
Think of the key as a transmission replacement with less hassle. I say this because both are similar in price.
Or take the chance and do nothing. Then lose or break the key somewhere far from home. That would be even more expensive and frustrating. The wait time for replacement is now several months (into late October or early November)
so you would be waiting for weeks or months to receive a key fob and in the meantime not be able to start or drive the car.
We we are all looking for a cheap solution to the key fob. That cheap solution has not yet presented itself and many forum members have attempted to find a cost effective work around
The cars were 30k then. They are 4-15k now
spend the money and fix the problem. Or sell the car and buy another with 2 fobs.

Thank you uMatt You are most kind offering your help. I want to thank everyone on this forum who has helped me with many projects. You guys and gals ROCK !! I will inquire with this person . But as I mentioned b4 I bought one of those cheap Chinese flip key cases . And I had it together and dropped it at night on black top and it broke into 10 pieces .. Lolol and wouldnt you know I found every part but the transponder Im 60 yrs old bad knees on my knees for days looking for this dam transponder. Lololo thanks again for everyone's help . I have learned so much . Ahhh I have one working key left with 1 transponder . My one option is just open my one good key and take transponder out and glue to antenna ring permanently . so I can use any cut key to start car. I hate doing this my luck the last transponder will disappear then I'm really screwed lololo
Thanks again
Thanks again
I do know he is on his way to north Georgia ,,will be there around the 18 of Oct so if you need him to come to Maryland, get a call to him asap.

I am so sick of seeing countless posts rambling on and on about keys/skreems/and such going on and on (with the same back and forth) with no results AND the same ramblings/results in a seemly endless loop. Moderators, are you sure some members aren't scamming ppl with duplicate memberships?

I will do this tomorrow thanks again Sir . Some on this thread hate hearing about us needing keys and Skreem modules . Guess I should not post anymore about a key ?? or perhaps some who hate hearing about it should look at other threads and bypass the key issue thread . I'm tired of looking and reading nowhere threads about finding a key for this dam car . I know many of you complaining have tons of money or perfect 10 cars. But those of us who just got into this car are learning about how difficult it is get parts for it. So I am done . I will just read others remarks and comments about a nowhere fix for our cars !! And the last comment were not directed towards AMX1397 .

I agree. It's a problem. There are genuine, very helpful, and well meaning related contributions, but a couple of posters cannot miss an opportunity to interject to complain, and repeat their dire messages.

Just got my 2005 Crossfire Roadster last week. All is good except the last owner was down to 1 key. I will feel better having two.
Remotes and Keys website is asking $460.56 (after discount) for a spare key. High but less than the $560.00 my dealer quoted me today.
This may have been asked before but has any other forum members used this supplier?
I will appericate any feedback. I am still in the learning mode.
Thanks,
Scott

Since these cars have become "cheap to buy" a whole new generation of new buyers are having this problem; me included. The short story is this; the supplier can't get you the key at this time and may be able to in 2020.
well if anyone know where to have a key made please let me know as of today at fort hood, tx the dealer nor they say they cant order one or even get one i have order two off line at 224.00 a key and even lock smiths cant even do a lazor cut and get them right. need help in geting one cut by vin num and program
.
Just remember, ppl will sell you anything you want, just be careful, it most likely will not work! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Nuff said (drops mic)…

Having read the horror stories I've become very protective of my two keys. Pull into garage, open door, still seated, reach up & place key on top of roof. Leave key there until I drive the car again. Spare key is stored in a safe along with the title. Could I be more careful?
