Can anyone identify this gadget?
This "antenna" was attached to the car when I bought it last month. The previous owner says he has no idea what it is for, but someone told him it might have something to do with the radio.
I can't find anything like this in the owners manual or with the forum search function.
I just don't want to screw up something that might be an authorized aftermarket thing-um-abob.
The wires don't hook up to either the garage door opener or the rear view mirror. The wires go under the headliner, and it appears they go between two of the metal roof panels - impossible to tell without tearing away the headliner.
I've pushed the little button ( with the ignition both on and off - to no avail). The little "tell-tale" light on the "antenna" does not light and nothing in the car seems to change.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

Re: Can anyone identify this gadget?
OK
Remote starter or sat. radio - I never thought of either of those options. Thanks.
I have looked for any type of model type or maker name, but the little black plastic case is "clean".
Since it does not appear to be a Crossfire or MB part, I think I will try to remove it and try to trace the wires (without tearing up the headliner).
Forum help and advice is always appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Can anyone identify this gadget?
One step closer to an I.D.
The wire to this thing went under the roof liner and down the driver's side pillar to somewhere in the dash.
As soon as my back says it is OK, I will grunt and groan and try to trace the path where the wire entered the dash cover.

Re: Can anyone identify this gadget?
Yes to both amx 1397 and to oledoc2u.
Specifically, this appears to be a replacement antenna : DIRECTED DEI 6211T RESPONDER LE REPLACEMENT 2-WAY CAR ALARM ANTENNA VIPER PYTHON .
It fits several brands of car alarms, remote starters, tow away protectors, etc.
Thanks to all.
That was fun.

Maybe one day I'll venture down there with my beast and I'll take you up on that. You really are a "good sport" Jim.
