Finally comfortable
As some here know I first went to look at a beautiful '07 Silver Roadster only to find out that I just did not fit. Was cramped even with the seat against the pseudo roll bar.
I was looking for a more modern (OBD-II) replacement for my Fiero and have has a number of "cars you wear" from Fieros to Fiat 850R and never had an issue. Some early seats I had to modify for rake as I like an arms out position with my upper back supported by the seat. In recent years I also found that a too narrow seat bothered my right hip, cured in the Fiero by a 1/8" pad under the seat cover. My Reattas never had this issue.
Have been GM for most of my life but since my last new car purchase was a Jeep (best tow car I've ever had) MOPAR was possible & liked the lines of a XF.
Since the roadster was out I began looking at the coupe and despite the lack of a roof vent or tilt steering wheel, I liked the rest. Even the very low profile tires seemed to fit. Further the coupe was not constrained by a need to support a tonneau cover. As near as I could tell the coupe was simple a redsign of a SLK mec and the floor pan including the roadster support was not needed but also not changed.
When I look, I find but helps that central Florida is a target rich environment. A black (not my first choice) '07 coupe with manual trans appeared for the right price.
Was also fortunate in that the gas tank plumbing was on the passenger side so not a concern. Have outlined the surgery in other posts amd raising the rear of the seat rail by 1/2" but the top of the seat is now 2-2.5" further back than possible before and raked 35 degrees. It is also raised enough to compensate for the non-tilt wheel.
The next step was the purchase of a good driver's seat from a wrecked car and after removing the seat cover from the lower cushion carved (an electric knife is good) the foam to remove most of the bolster from each side. No more hip pain & still have the original seat in a big baggie.
Went along like that for a while but was close but no cigar. Then I realized there was a plastic left foot rest (dead pedal) that was 2.5" high and held on with two T-30 screws. Replacing that with a flat plat let me stretch my left leg out when not needed.
Drove to the coast and back comfortably, have added a Bluetooth radio head with HFP, and I think it is about right so now can turn to other things like a 2.67 rear end.
Did I mention that none of my cars that I keep stay stock for long ?
