Default cup holder out plastic box replacement question

I was thinking about milling one out of aluminum but i am lacking one measurement and that is how deep i can go. I have materials and a mill. Polished up i think this might look a lot better then that plastic box.

Any chance one of you guys could measure yours just the depth and was wondering if there is a little room to go deeper or not under the center console. Thanks.

What dimension do you need? I can stick a caliper in there for depth front and back. The bottom is flat and .060" thick in the OEM/replacement bin.

Take it out and measure it, it isn't hard just a couple of screwa and two nuts, oh, and the brake handle covering must be pulled off. All in all about 15 minutes.

One of the issues with the OEM cup holder (and there are MANY) is that it is located in a bad spot and is just kind of "in the way" when you're driving. Personally I wouldn't spend any time and money to fab up a new cup holder going in that same spot. I suggest that you seek an alternate solution. TONS of different cup holder suggestions / solutions are documented and archived here on the forum. Just search "cup holder" in the Google search box at the top of any page / start reading / choose an alternative solution that you like . . . Just Sayin' . . .

NOT quite that easy in the Roadsters. you cannot lift the center console away due to the Convertible top Pneumatic/Hydraulic ??? Line at the aft end.
I have just removed my broken cup holder, if measuring that would be of any assistance ?????

Actually that yellow line that you have to disconnect to remove the center console on a roadster is to "lock" the center console door cover . . . It is part of the pneumatic locking system (an extra line on the roadsters) and has nothing to do with hydraulics or with the convertible top.

The easy way is for somebody with a bin to remove it and take the measurements. There is no need to remove the console at all.
Just pinch in the sides of the bin and it comes up and out . Easy peasy.

I guess you have a bin or a cup holder in your hand?
I measured mine and the very max would be 5.25", but from the top of the console it should be 5.12" to be safe. It could be slightly tapered like the OEM bin is but flat it should be 5.12".

Just shows Red Dog, I learn something every day, I knew it was something I didn't really want to mess with. Thanks for the info.

Max,
I love your Custom DCIA, is the "Y Piece" part of a "Needswing" assembly. Not had contact with you for quite a while, not since you supplied all the "Underhood Stainless Bling" on one of my previous Crossfires.
Unfortunately that was the car that was stolen from the next owner, and torched SAD SAD SAD.
I did manage to pass on some of the Bling to a fellow Forum Member "DTinker" before selling that car, so not all was lost. Been away from the Crossfire scene for a couple of years, BUT back Now. I missed ALL you guys and the Forum Scene.

Don't know if Max will be on the forum today, so I'll take the liberty of answering this question.
Max fabricated that "Y" himself.

Well-kinda'. It's 2 90 degree elbows, sawn and welded. But in stainless. I'm still thinking of re-doing the whole thing in aluminum and one piece.

If I can find a welder that can do it without blowing holes in .060" wall tubing.

Should be an excellent project for a 3D printer.
I just KNOW you have to have one of those puppies in your lab, Max.
( and if you don't, then I'm sure you can justify getting one )

Make a plastic mold with the printer, then use that to make a carbon fiber "Y".
Walk in the park.

Too bad you don't live here, we have a lady welder who is know far and wide as the best aluminum welder around. One gentleman said that she is the only person who could weld a piece of tinfoil to a tin can! I don't know about that but she is extremely good. I have had her do some aluminum welding on the cams of my hunting bows and that is delicate work.
