Hope all is well.

I am new to these forums in terms of posting stuff, and new to all the topic.

I am wanting to replace that cheap looking silver center piece with something else. I want to replace the whole plate where radio is and controls, and the silver piece where the cup holder is, and the piece where the box opens to put stuff into.

I went to TintWorld, and the price they quoted be was 450 dollars for the vinyl wrap. I am looking to do it myself it its possible, and was wondering how can this be done? How do I remove all these pieces?

Of course their are two options. Their is vinyl wrap, and the sticky stuff you put on top of the center piece. However, I feel like the sticky stuff looks cheap and won't come out as clean.

The vinyl wrap seems to be the way to go. Any opinions?

I don't have any experience with small parts. We have wrapped our semi trailers with this material. The company that did ours told me there are several difference materials for doing this. I was asking to do a wrap on another car I have. So, do some research, but I was quoted $450 to wrap a small Suzuki SUV...so I would say that pricing is high for a few small pieces....

 

I might add, from time to time, different wrap material is sold on Ebay. You might try some there, but again, you need the better material. We have had members custom paint theirs. Good luck...

Highlight summary is that it is very difficult (read as near impossible) to get the wrap material to conform to the compound angles on the silver bezels AND the tolerances between the switches and the bezel pieces are so tight that when you wrap them, it the additional thickness interferes with the function of the switches. As have others, I tried and failed at wrapping these parts.

Is their anything else that can be done that would be what im looking for? Anything to customize that awful silver center piece? haha.

 

It just cant conform to the curves. If you are not comfortable painting, you could always take it out to save money and take it to a "professional" auto body/paint shop and they could paint it any color you want.

Quick question - is their any instructions on how to remove the centerpiece? Is it easy?

Also, is their anything else that can be done to give it a cool wooden, or carbon fiber finish?

 

There is another option, but I don't know much about it. It's called Hydro Dipping Film. It's used on many different products. I do recall a couple forum members having it done a few years ago. The film is very thin and will not interfere with any switches. In addition, it conforms to all the angles. I did a google search and randomly selected a site that appears to have a lot of information about it.

You are going against the advise of everyone who responded to your thread . . . Notice that no one is continuing to respond now??

OK - I'll try to be a nice guy here and offer a suggestion . . . Start on the easy silver panels on the console. If you can successfully wrap those then (and only then) should you consider trying to tackle the bezels on the center stack. That's how far I got before realizing that it wasn't turning out as well as I would hope and also realizing that it just would not work on the more complex bezels of the center stack . . .

All I was asking is how do I remove the center piece now? I looked and couldn't find anything on instructions on how to remove the center piece. Your comment you posted didn't explain the instruction either. It just told me to remove the center piece. Unless im wrong...

NOTE ! If this a roadster, then there is a vacuum line connected to the center console.

 

He MAY have meant he was give it a go on removing the panels and painting them himself not trying to wrap?

The information ala_xfire referenced is in the SERVICE MANUAL (not your owner's manual). I suggest that you take the time to download the entire service manual onto your computer for future reference.

Also . . . Sorry if I misinterpreted your intentions to move forward on your wrap project . . . good luck . . .
