Default Dead Pedal

I have seen reference to the removal of a dead pedal from the Crossfire to either extend leg room or to add a more substantial one. I do not see any existing dead pedal. Seems to be just carpeting in that area. Are there pictures of either mod? It would be nice to have a custom aluminum one like I added to my E46. Is there something to mount to?

Under the two plugs there are the mounting screws. Is just a plain plastic piece.

Thank you. I never looked close enough. Seems rather cheap in a car such as ours. What is underneath if you remove it? Enough backing for a nice aluminum dead pedal?

I have read on the forum that a couple of inches in leg room could be gained by removing this. The aluminum dead pedals are thin and could be added and still result in additional leg room. I would like to see what other members have done. Pictures?

Did you reuse the same holes and screws for mounting the dead pedal in the pic?

Yes, otherwise I would have used flat heads.

Checked today. No dead pedal on my Crossfire. Was it an option? I would like too add one to rest my left foot on but now I'm not sure what I can screw into.

They were on the later models only I believe. Look like crap though from what I see.

Agreed, looks like a after thought. What I really need to know is if I can put screws into that area to mount a meaningful aluminum dead pedal.

The best dead pedal that I've seen belongs to DTMenace, it matches perfectly and is solid. looks like a factory fit.

Thanks Jim for the complement, mine is securely attached with heavy duty Velcro to the carpet and it does not move at all. Attached is an old photo after the install.
The direct match is a gas pedal from a Dodge Neon SRT4. Check Ebay or your local boneyard for the part, Dodge no longer sell the pedal only, but sell the pedal with the attached arm for $90+. The floor mat is partially covering the dead pedal.

There are multiple Mercedes (AMG) style dead pedals on ebay. I purchased the one that ships from Australia for $40.00. I feel it's the best match. Looks like OEM fit and finish. Other options range from $19.00 and up.

How did you attach? Velcro?

Yes, the pedal cover comes with Velcro on the back side to attach to your carpet.

I like it! $40 though is a lot. I already blew my budget this month on some leather stuff from the UK (brake handle and door handle covers).

Did you go with the edge or try to align it with the pedals? On my standard the angle of the bump is different than the pedals. The downside to aligning with the pedals is that part of the dead pedal will be hanging off slightly.

I'm thinking strongly about getting one of these. Looked really good in your car.

The dead pedal in my 2007 doesn't look at all like the one in your picture. It is attached with 2 screws, but the one in my car is completely flat. There is no hump-back to it. Not sure now I want to replace it.
