Found a Great Place for Body Work and would Welcome a Tour (NW Chicagoland Suburb)
I just had a bumper replacement at a company called Custom Classics, Inc, in Island Lake, Illinois. Island Lake is right near Crystal Lake, where FP lives. Over the years, I have been at, and seen a lot of establishments that do this type of work, but I have NEVER seen one that does the kind of work that they do, with the impecable quality of the finished product. They have many works in progress of MAJOR customizings and restorations on many different collectible cars. They told me that my xfire was one of the 1st they have worked on. I spoke to them, and they would welcome a tour of their facility as long as I could give them a heads up. Any body interested to do a GTG , maybe do a lunch and see this facility? You'll be amazed !!!!

you think they can mod me some bentley fenders to go on the rear of my car? Are they that good? LOL I want that wide fender flare out back. I could always stack another crossfire fender back there, but that would have a little different look.

GOOD NEWS >>> Custom Classics welcome our visit ..... BAD NEWS>>> They're open on Saturdays only till 12 noon, and Closed on Sunday... Just found this out today. So any visit would have to take place during the week. Hours are 8AM to 5PM. I know this is tough for guys that work ..... Stay tuned .... I'll find out if an early visit on a Saturday would be OK with them. Actually if we stayed there for about a 30 to 60 minute visit, they may be OK with that. If they have a skeleton crew working, they may not want us touring. If we can get in early on a Saturday, then we can stop for a lunch, and get our cars detailed by FP (just kidding).
Trust me ... even a 30 minute visit makes this a worthwhile GTG ....

I'm not kidding ...... when I was there yesterday AM to p/u my car, they had a brand new Camaro in the shop starting a complete customization. They were Sculpting styrofoam on the car (Flaring out the rear fenders, sides, front fenders, trunk lines, hood and headlights).
OK.... I just talked to my contact at Custom Classics, and he said that a Saturday tour at about 10AM would be fine, as long as I give them a heads up.
Don't expect more then a tour (no refreshments and such), but I really don't think you'll be hungry or thirsty, other then "chewing" on whats happening there. I am sure they would be open to most of our questions and be very hospitable. After that a run up to Lake Geneva Wisconsin at a restaurant right in town (about 30 miles > 45 minutes), at Popeyes right on the lake for lunch.
How does August 14th sound?

I've worked in the autobody industry in the Chicago/Northern Illinois area for about 18 years. Custom Classics is one of the best. They do outstanding work. I'd trust them with my car any time. Plus, they generally have some other very cool cars there.

That's awefully close to Chicago and a 7 hour drive for me, but if a few of you guys are in, I will try to make it. I could use another trip in the crossy anyway. LOL
Count me in.
I will be driving down from Antioch and then breaking off after lunch to Antioch.
You better make reservations at Popeyes.....

OK, I've penciled it in on personal planner. Getting up and about by 10 will be a challenge but I'm motivated.
