At our last outing, we discussed a destination "run", meaning we are driving to some where. We discussed the Keenesburg Animal Sanctuary. We can go on any date, and the cost is $15.00. How many would enjoy this?

 

We will meet at the Village Inn at the N/E corner of Federal and I70 for breakfast at 9am and anyone not wanting to have breakfast can arrive at 10 to convoy out to Keensburg. The drive out should take aprox an hour and 20 mins. I hope to see a good representation of the club to have a good look at some exotic animals in a more open and natural habitat for them at the sanctuary and all fees go to keep it open for the animals. If you just want to meet us out there we will be there at 11:35 to go on a tour.

Visiting the Sanctuary

People ask us all the time if they can visit or volunteer at the Center... and of course we say yes - but only under certain conditions!
Since we are a Sanctuary, and not a Zoo, our facility is operated very differently than what most people expect. The main goal here is to give the animals the very best care and consideration possible - so that means we cater to their needs - above everyone else’s.
Therefore, our Sanctuary is designed so that you can see the animals - and learn about their incredible rescue stories - without intruding on their space or causing them undo pressure.
Educating the public about problems concerning captive wildlife is a very important part of our mission, so we offer people the opportunity to visit the sanctuary. On-site educational visits are available for individuals, families, senior groups, schools, etc… on a daily basis - but it’s very important that guests understand visiting our sanctuary will be quite different from what you would experience if you were going to a zoo where animals are forced to be on display. Here, they are welcome to live freely and do what they want - when they want - and may not always be front and center for the benefit of human viewing.
Our facility has many large-acreage habitats that sprawl across the sanctuary’s 720 acres, so you can expect to see an amazing number of rescued lions, tigers, bears, and other species roaming freely. However, in order to see the animals - and not intrude on their space - or to be in dangerous proximity - we have built a very unique (and quite exciting) observation system that towers 35 feet above the facility. The system has spacious catwalks and large decks that span across the main portion of the sanctuary - giving visitors an amazing view… and a wildlife adventure unlike anything they have ever experienced before. You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch and there is a full operational snack bar that offers a wide variety of nutritious food, snacks and beverages. From sandwiches to fresh salads, there is something for everyone! During our winter hours, the snack bar is only open on the weekends and is subject to close for bad weather.
After everything the Animals have endured before coming to live at the Sanctuary… it is our commitment to provide a home where they can safely live in peace. The Sanctuary does not breed or sell its Animals, nor are they used for commercial purposes. Our Sanctuary is set up to allow visitors on a daily basis - but does so with an elaborately constructed viewing system, to protect our animals’ privacy and overall welfare.
Anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about the Captive Wildlife Crisis in America can come to the Sanctuary, tour our Education Center, and see hundreds of rescued animals’ enjoying their new home.
