Nightrider, I already sent Reno a PM with the cruise dates and info.

Crossfire Trail, Congratulations!! New England XFires have chimed-in and 2nd my appointment of you as the Newport Cruise Leader!
I only ask that you leave room for the Belcourt Castle visit. If it falls through we can easily fill the void.

I have also sent you a PM.

Stan

Thank you all for your votes and nomination, I'll do my best to get this thing running like a finely tuned Crossfire, what else?
I would like all to meet at the Newport Grand at 10:am, rather than an earlier time. We can meet each group seperately, as discussed and have breakfast before the Grand meeting. That would be the most likely starting point as one large group. As I mentioned, One photographer will be in front (myself) and Crossfirenorth bringing up the rear. It may be fun if we switched up a couple of times along the route to take shots from a different perspective. Facilities are available throughout the route for photo ops and bathroom breaks. Anyone that has a couple of walkie talkies, please bring them along, fully charged and set to channel 15. Unless someone has a better method of communication. If someone has the list with all the cell phones of those attending, please PM me with that info. For the sake of making a smooth ride better we should split the two teams into North and South, The latter meeting at the rt 1A spot in Narragansett,/ N. Kingstown.
Let me know if all of this is agreeable to the masses and we will be off and running. Any ideas or thoughts should be mentioned and discussed.
Thanks, Crossfire Trail (Rick)

Sounds like a plan, Crossfire Trail! My only question at this time is why have two separate meeting locations if you already know your way to Newport Grand? Unless people need to follow someone to find Newport Grand, or want to stop for breakfast some where, we should all just meet there.

I have two Uniden walkie-talkies that have channels 1-22 or so. I would imagine similar walkie-talkies would work in conjunction with these. Also I have no problem bringing up the rear.

There is one group that will be arriving from the North and NE areas and I belive they are meeting somewhere in Seekonk or Swansea, another group that will be coming from the western and southern route which will meet at Rt-1A off of 138 in the big park and ride area. Both groups will do thier thing and have breakfast and whatnot and we will all converge at Newport Grand. As I understood it, that was the plan. As for bringing up the rear, we need to try to maintain a continuity of the group, staying close enough together so that we don't have people "cutting in" to the group. It may be difficult to do, that's why I'm going to try to get an escort. That may or may not happen but, Newport is a tourist attraction and should afford us a bit of courtesy, after all, we will be spending money. At least that's what I am going to tell the powers that be!!!

Thanks Pete, we had a lot of fun at those cruise nights, I'd love to see more folks show up and have a whole row of xfires in every color this year. It would be incredible to see.

Where's the car show in Warwick? Is it one of the B-101 shows with Cruisin' Bruce Palmer (Is that his last name?)? I keep my boat in Warwick at Pettis Boatyard on Pawtuxet Cove. I couldn't be too far away from where the car shows are held.

They are at Oakland Beach, on the common and the ball field. This year may be a bit different though because they are going to put up a carousel that they have been working on for a few years. The other show is on Thursday night at TGI Friday's right off of route two (Bald Hill Rd.) that's a relatively small one but there's a 50-50 and a bunch of trivia Prizes given out to the first person to answer the question, that's in the show. Some pretty good prizes are given out too. Great folks, great cars, food sucks though, bring your own. PM me and I'll give you my cell number so you can give me a shout if you might want to come. I'm glad the Cape Cruise is next weekend and not the day after tomorrow. My XFire is at the dealers for the weekend. I had a slow leak in the LR tire which turned out to be a screw through the sidewall. They can't get the replacement tires until Monday. After trying to get me to pay for the second tire because they must change them in pairs, I told them I expect to pay nothing since I've only had my XFire for a month and the tire had the slow leak when I purchased it. I think they recognized me as a friend of the owners and agreed to do the work for the bubble. So no XFire this weekend. I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty loaner until my car is ready. I miss it already...

Lakeshoretires.com will sell you 1 tire and at a discount price. I went thru the BS when I bought only rear Goodyear F1 AS. We only sell them in sets of 4s its unsafe to buy less. BS...its less profitable to buy less

Hi Nightrider,...The bad word in your post is "sell". In order for them to "sell" I would have to "buy". To "buy" I would have to reach for my wallet and give them my money. Believe me, I have no intentions of giving up my cash to replace a tire on a car I've only driven 400 miles so far.

I would have no problem with the dealer replacing just the defective tire, but if they say they must replace them in pairs, then let them pay for the pair. I will be gratious and give them a big "Thank you very much!"

Cheap is good but free is better!

By the way Nightrider, I was down in your neck of the woods yesterday. The bride and I went to Mohegan for a little fun and games. To make a long story short, she lost $20 and I lost $50 for our four hour stay at the poker machines. The best part, I was down $110 until the finally play when I won $60. I thought that was a sign from above it was time to leave. While I was sitting at that machine, the guy next to me hit a $2500 jackpot on a triple strike machine. It's nice to see someone winning the big bucks. It hasn't been the bride and I for a long time.

Unhappy Re: Newport Ri Cruise

I'll probably be down in Norwich this afternoon and later tomorrow, too. We'll be taking the Nissan pickup, though. We have to go pick up my grandson for Easter morning and then bring him back tomorrow...

Just what I love to do - go visit the in-laws...

The Newport Cruise is just over a month away. Can we have an update list of potential participants? It would be nice if we had a way of identifying people with their Xfires such as:

2005 Yellow Roadster, Bob & Lorna, North Attleboro, MA, MA tags NORTH

That type of info takes the guessing out and you don't have to wonder what everybody's name is. You could actually put them all in one post and print it out. Good idea? Bad idea?

Some folks don't like to post real tag numbers in an internet forum, but I'll PM that info to whoever is keepng track.

You are indeed correct in assuming that a lot of folks don't want to share the tag numbers on the internet. That being said, a list has been posted a couple of times and I have the names of some of the participants.
I'm quite sure that when we see a Crossfire in the lot at the Grand, it will be looking for us, as for names and such, we just do what the rest of the world does and go introduce ourselves, handle and then our real name.
In these days of internet scams and piracy as well as identity theft, it may be the most prudent way to do this.
You can't be paranoid but you CAN be vigilant. And so it goes, we just try to do the best we can with what we have.
I, personally don't care who sees my plate, I'm a proud veteran and, oh yes, I shoot back!!!

That's a great RI tag! I've never seen one like that before. Is it a new offering from the Ocean State?

Re not displaying your plate on the Net: If people don't want to do it, I respect that. I've been displaying my NORTH plate since 1966 so I guess it doesn't matter to me.
