Hello all, Im looking for a crossfire for my wife, she had one when she was 17 and had to sell it due to having a our baby. Anyway she gets upset every time she sees one. Ive been looking around for one for her for a while now, while many of them are pricey I found one that is within my budget. That said it has 270K miles on it!!!!!!!! The owner said the engine was rebuilt about 50k ago though. Is this worth pursuing or should I run away? He is asking $4500 for it.

There are few people qualified to do a 'quality' rebuild on the MB 3.2 engine, and the odds are one of them didn't do it.
AT 270,000 miles, lots of running gear will be at, or near it's expect service life.
I'd go maybe $2500 tops.

 

Private party sale is only about $2700 value with about $3800 value dealer retail.

I've seen much lower mileage Crossfires out there in the 5 to 7K dollar range that I would look for. Cosmetics can be corrected, wear in an engine that's been rebuilt and on a carrriage that has a ton more mileage can't be easily erased.............

Good Luck. Search long and wide. They are out there and negotiations on these can be made.

 

You don't need this burden. Keep looking. That isn't even a deal, and the mileage is ridiculous. Not many know how to rebuild to MB standards....

 

By any measurement a lower mileage car will provide for much better ownership experience.
In the long run it will likely be the lowest cost option also.

 

I agree it will be a better ownership experience to get a lower mileage car. There are many other parts that have worn over those miles that can cost you a lot to replace.


For $1,500 to $2,500 more you should be able to get one in good condition from a private seller with under 100,000 miles on it. Tires are very expensive for these cars. Factor that into your purchase price.
