After doing a lot of research and digging through this awesome forum, we pulled the trigger on a Sapphire Silver Blue 2004 Coupe the other day. She has 38K miles and is super clean. Previous owner was an older gentleman who bought it when he was 80 yrs old. He was also a pilot so we figured it was very well-maintained. An inspection by a local mechanic familiar with the car confirmed this.

Anyway, really loving this car and the classic yet futuristic look. And even tho it's not an SRT, it's plenty ballsy for our needs.

Thankful for all the shared knowledge, enthusiasm, and tips on this forum. Expect some questions out of this new Crossfire owner.

I appreciate the warm welcome very much -so glad that this group exists, such a collective passion for this little bastard beast of a car. Not counting the one in our garage, I can't remember the last time I saw a Crossfire in the wild. But I do vaguely remember the first time I saw one ( years ago) and thought "that's a f'n cool-looking car".

I was jolted into recall mode thanks to a small town Facebook "for sale" group where someone listed their late grandfather's car for sale. He lived maybe a hundred miles or so away and his grand daughter listed it in our little town's FB. Anyway....in his honor we've left his EAA (experimental aircraft association) decal on the back window. He had been a pilot and an airstrip owner. No doubt he was meticulous about maintenance - as pilots tend to be.

Haven't had this one long enough to even wash it or vacuum. It doesn't need it yet! Fresh Mobile 1 and a clean checkup and we're rolling. Except for some Rain-X (windshield fogs like a sonofabitch with the AC on). Didn't help. Oh well.

Putting new rear tires on it next week. Conti ExtremeGrip . Then an alignment. Should be it for a while.

Reading all the discussions here, it sounds like there are some sensors (CPS, etc) that I ought to have on hand. Orders will be placed next week.

I normally hang out on a forum for drummers and drum gear / music talk (my natural language) and I have to say, this forum is better than I ever expected to find. Good stuff!!

I know how to use the search features, but be prepared for some NEWBIE questions in the coming days, guys and gals.

Be aware that the front and rear camber are not adjustable without installing extra hardware, hopefully they will be OK.

Haha, one would think, but I have had alignment shops tell me to go to a frame shop and have them put it on the rack and have them pull it out.

I live in southern IL, outside carbondale on the shawnee hills wine trail.
Grew up in central IL on a farm.

Planning on summer driving only and garage in winters?
Or drive year around?

Thanks, man. I'm just east of Champaign. Like you, I grew up on a farm - not far from here. The car will be a daily driver, but the work commute is only 11 miles each way. For any knocking around / utility driving we'll use a different vehicle to try to keep the miles down. Kind of nervous about winter driving but it seems the winters are getting more mild every year.

Guess I'll have to call around first to make sure the shops know how to do an alignment on this thing. Ha!

 

I have drove mine in winters, 275 or 285 all season tires and some tractor plate weights in back and it has surprised me.
Have my trucks, but with my long drives I kept looking at the milage and weather for the week, but have been caught up in snow and ice.
I have a manual better rpm control for slick conditions.
I have external tpms so can air down rear tires if needed.

Finally was able to see your post valk.
Tried opening a few different times today, said you posted last, but would not show me your post.
The same thing as it was doing to me?
How others where having problems seeing g my posts, but seems like after the app stopped working on my phone and having to log on forum through chrome, it seems to be working again.

 

I couldn't see Valk's post either. Can now and I haven't changed anything.

Only if they have experience with Mercedes. We end up having to teach alignment shops over the years when we bring them in as this is not a domestic under the skin.
